Grey’s Anatomy Star Kelly McCreary Teases Maggie’s Next Chapter After Season 22 Comeback

Fresh off Maggie’s Season 22 comeback, Grey’s Anatomy alum Kelly McCreary says she’s far from done, opening up about the character’s future and her readiness to scrub back in as Meredith Grey’s half-sister.
Maggie Pierce popped back into Grey's Anatomy in Season 22, and now Kelly McCreary is talking about what that actually means. Short version: if the show wants more Maggie, she is game.
She'll come back if they ask
In a chat with Soaps.com, McCreary called Grey's home and said she loved how the show wrapped Maggie's long-term arc — as if she kept doing her thing at Grey Sloan, just on a bigger stage. Translation: they left the door wide open, and she is fine walking through it again when the story is worth it.
"As long as the audience is interested, then I’m happy to come back."
The pregnancy twist is not a throwaway
Maggie returned with a surprise pregnancy, and McCreary thinks the writers have something major in mind. Given Maggie is Meredith Grey's half-sister, she also expects Meredith and Amelia to be pulled into the baby's orbit. Honestly, it would be weird if they weren't.
Quick Maggie/McCreary refresher
- Joined Grey's in the penultimate episode of Season 10 as Meredith's half-sister, then became a series regular in Season 11.
- Stayed a primary cast member through Season 19 before shifting to guest appearances.
- Popped back in during Season 22 with that pregnancy reveal, which sure sounds like setup for more to come.
- McCreary is a Wisconsin-born actor and also previously appeared on Scandal.
Where Season 22 stands
Two episodes are out. The remaining 16 roll out on Thursdays. If the Maggie storyline keeps building, do not be surprised if McCreary keeps showing up — she clearly wants to.
