Grey's Anatomy Hilarious Age Blunders That Are Beyond Any Explaining
Over its 20-season run, Grey's Anatomy has featured hundreds of storylines and dozens of characters that have developed and grown before the eyes of viewers.
Unfortunately, this endless number of arcs has led to many timeline and age inconsistencies. It seems one can easily get an aneurysm trying to figure out the timeline or ages of characters on the medical show. But the fans don't give up.
Here are the most popular age discrepancies that fans have found over the years of watching Grey's Anatomy.
Meredith Grey
The main confusion, of course, is the real age of the main character, Meredith Grey. It is canon that she was born in 1978 because there is a fixed timeline related to Richard Webber and Ellis Grey's affair.
This means that for the first three seasons, which cover the first year of MAGIC's residency, Meredith was about 28. But in episode 2 of season 10, Meredith is seen wearing a hospital band that says she was born in 1981.
Amelia Shepherd
The age of Derek's younger sister confuses many fans. According to the show, Amelia is older than Meredith. She is about 7 years younger than Derek, and Meredith is 12 years younger than him. Furthermore, Amelia should be at least a year older than Bailey, since she is already a fellow when Bailey finishes her residency.

For many fans, this makes no sense because the actress behind Amelia, Caterina Scorsone, is 12 years younger than Ellen Pompeo, who plays Meredith, and Chandra Wilson, who plays Bailey.
Lexie Grey
The age of Meredith's younger sister also causes a lot of confusion in various fan discussions. Technically, Lexie should be at least 6 years younger than Meredith, since we know Thatcher Grey left his first family when Meredith was 5. However, when Lexie joins the show, the sisters are a year apart in residency.
The writers have tried to explain this by saying that Meredith traveled before residency, and super-smart Lexie skipped a grade, but the numbers still don't add up.

Owen Hunt
It is established that Owen was born in 1978, just like Meredith. But it doesn't make sense because in Seasons 5-8, Owen was a senior attending and later Chief of Surgery while Meredith was just a resident.
Considering that Owen worked at Maryland Shock Trauma and then spent some time on active duty in the military, he must have been close to 40 when we first met him.
