After a year on pause, General Hospital alum Greg Vaughan is back in the game, joining Beyond the Gates and charging into a career reboot with bold moves ahead.

Greg Vaughan hit pause after a scary health moment last year. Now he is back on set, back in the mix, and talking like a guy who is not done climbing.

The break: what happened

The General Hospital alum and Days of Our Lives vet stepped away from work for roughly a year after a major health scare in March 2024 during a Colorado spring break trip with his kids. He told Woman's World the downtime was not exactly relaxing — money stress, career anxiety, the whole thing — but he forced himself to reset.

"When I am getting stressed emotionally, financially, or whatever have you, I am like, 'Faith over fear. Just sit in your roots, and doors will open when it is time. This is where you need to be right now.'"

The return: Beyond the Gates

Vaughan is now part of Beyond the Gates, playing Kial Rollins — a role he says came his way because producer Michele Val Jean, who worked with him back in his General Hospital days, pushed for him. That kind of reunion hire is the definition of industry shorthand, and it clearly worked: his first appearance made a strong impression.

What he is aiming for next

Asked how he feels about the career he has built, Vaughan kept it simple: it is "still building." He is proud of the daytime footprint, but he is not parking there. He says he keeps drifting into primetime, is reading for a movie with two big stars right now, and is writing more on the side — basically, stacking the deck for the next run.

  • Still loves daytime and plans to keep returning to it.
  • Continuing to chase primetime work.
  • Actively reading for a feature film with two big-name co-stars.
  • Doing more writing while he lines up the next gigs.
  • Settled into Beyond the Gates as Kial Rollins, thanks to Michele Val Jean insisting he was the guy.

After a quiet year, the soap staple looks set for a busier stretch — and if Beyond the Gates is any indication, he is stepping back in with momentum.
