Good Omens Season 2 Won't Be The Last Time We Met Zombie Nazis
The ineffable author is teasing his fans.
Season 2 of Good Omens left fans devastated over the disrupted friendship-turned-romance dynamics between Aziraphale and Crowley. It was unbearable to see Azi enter his Joker arc, agreeing to become an Archangel instead of Gabriel, and leave Crowley heartbroken after he had finally confessed his love to the angel.
But that's far from the only thing torturing viewers after the end of Season 2. While Gabriel and Beelzebub left Heaven and Hell for a shared existence on Alpha Centauri, the fates of all the other characters remained up in the air. In particular, some viewers are wondering if the trio of zombie Nazis will continue to roam the Earth.
Quick Reminder
The unsavory but hilarious Nazi characters appeared as early as the first season, in the episode 'Hard Times.' In 1940 London, during the events known as the Blitz, Aziraphale played the role of a double agent who led Nazis into a church. But when things didn't go according to plan, Crowley came to the rescue. That ironically resulted in a Nazi bomb falling on the infamous trio of Nazis, who obviously went to Hell.
Then, in the second season episode 'The Hitchhiker,' demon Furfur offered the Nazis a deal in which they would keep tabs on Azi and Crowley, verifying their consorting, in exchange for returning to Earth as zombies. However, after they failed to provide proof, nothing has been heard from the trio.
Loved Good Omens? Here's Your Guide to Getting Into Neil Gaiman's Books
Neil Gaiman gives a heads-up (sort of)
So a curious fan asked Neil Gaiman about the Nazis' reappearance in a future season. As you may recall, the author has been actively interacting with his fans on both Twitter (oops, we meant X) and Tumblr for years.
'I'm curious about what happened to the zombie Nazis? I realized upon rewatching Season 2 that there isn't really anything said beyond the fact they will remain zombies. Could they turn other people into zombies? Will there be more said about them in Season 3, if we get a third season?' the fan's question goes.
Gaiman's response was incredibly succinct and teasing.
'Wait and see,' he wrote.
This reply has long been a local meme for fans, and even Gaiman himself often includes the hashtag "wait and see" under his Tumblr posts.
Well, hopefully it won't be another eternal 'wait' before Season 3, and we'll still get to 'see' the fate of the Nazi zombies (as well as one of the Ineffable Husbands) in the near future.
