Good Omens Season 2 Time Jump, Explained by Neil Gaiman Himself
The wait is finally over for Amazon Prime's Good Omens fans.
Good Omens' second season is quickly approaching its debut on July 28th. As the fantasy comedy series gears up ready for release, original author Neil Gaiman has discussed some exciting news about the upcoming season, and how the audience can expect a significant time jump in the continuing story.
When will the second season of Good Omens be set?
The author recently responded to fan questions about the series on his Tumblr account, revealing that the second season will not continue straight from where season one left off. Instead, the timeline will be set approximately a few years ahead of the show's previous events.
The series will be continuing from the events of the first season
Although its creators initially intended Good Omens to be a limited series, the decision was changed to keep the show going due to an overwhelmingly good reception and demand for more. Gaiman, acting as one of the showrunners, has since written an entirely new story that carries on with many of the characters from season one.
According to the series synopsis, the second season is set to explore the complicated relationship between the angel Aziraphale (Michael Sheen) and demon Crowley (David Tennant). After all the dramatic events of the first season, they are ready to enjoy a more relaxed and carefree life among humans. However, just when they think everything is going smoothly, a surprising mystery arrives, and the beloved characters will be once again thrust into a series of new adventures and challenges.
Who will be starring in the new season?
Along with Sheen and Tennant, who will be returning as the show's lead characters, Jon Hamm will be reprising his role as the archangel Gabriel. Doon Mackichan and Gloria Obianyo will also be making a comeback as archangels Michael and Uriel, as well as Miranda Richardson, Maggie Service, and Nina Sosanya.
New characters to make an appearance in the new season are said to be played by Liz Carr, Quelin Sepulveda, and Shelley Conn. David Tennant's own son, Ty Tennant (most recently known for his role in House of the Dragon), will debut on the show as a character called Ennon, although little has been revealed about his part so far.
With Good Omens season two time-skip, and with a number of new and old faces returning to the series, many fans have been wondering what may be in store for Aziraphale and Crowley next. Fortunately, we will not have to wait much longer to find out.
