The iconic writer comes bearing good news.

The finale of Good Omens Season 2 left no viewer indifferent. How could it, when the story of Michael Sheen's Aziraphale and David Tennant's Crowley concluded with such a bittersweet cliffhanger? I won't divulge the details here, as it's not the focus of this piece, but suffice it to say fans around the world are reeling emotionally two weeks after the season premiere.

The only solace for many right now is the hope that Season 3 will pick up the narrative and set everything right (and story-wise, there's a possibility for that). However, several factors could potentially jeopardise the renewal of the beloved series.

Given the ongoing Hollywood strikes, studios and networks are hesitant to make any announcements about their forthcoming schedules, as many shows have already seen their production ground to a halt, including Good Omens.

Fortunately, show creator Neil Gaiman, who also co-authored the 1990 novel that served as the basis for the first season of the series, keeps talking to his followers on social media, particularly on his Tumblr blog, sharing his future plans.

‘Before the strikes we had a plan and a timetable in place, and I expected that around now I’d be handing over the first draft of Episode Six of Season 3, and that the scripts would be in place and we’d just be waiting on Amazon to say yes or no, based on the viewer numbers,’ Gaiman wrote in July.

So, the chances of us seeing the charismatic duo of Aziraphale and Crowley again largely depend on Amazon Prime. That means the renewal of the series remains uncertain. We all know how unpredictable streaming services can be and how they never hesitate to pull the plug on a show if money is on the line.

However, don't lose hope. Neil Gaiman won't leave fans hanging, regardless of what Amazon Prime may decide. When queried by an anxious fan about the possibility of releasing the Season 3 script if the show doesn't continue, the esteemed author had an encouraging response.

‘No, I'd write a novel,’ he wrote.

Well, what can we say? We have every reason to be thankful for the incomparable Neil Gaiman!
