Glen Powell dives into creature-feature terror with The Death Roll, a killer-croc survival thriller he’ll produce under his Barnstorm banner.

Glen Powell is stacking his producing slate with things that want to eat you. Fresh off lining up a Texas Chainsaw Massacre series, his company Barnstorm just set its teeth into a new survival thriller.

Lionsgate snaps up The Death Roll

Lionsgate has picked up The Death Roll, a survival horror thriller built around a simple, mean hook: a couple on a dream vacation runs into an invasive 15-foot saltwater crocodile. Title checks out.

Barnstorm is producing alongside Chasing Epic Pictures. Powell is producing with Dan Cohen for Barnstorm, with Bryan Haas producing for Chasing Epic. Barnstorm's Ryan Schwartz is on board as executive producer. At Lionsgate, Chelsea Kujawa and Maria Ascanio are overseeing.

The writers behind the beast

The spec script comes from Kas Graham and Rebecca Pollock, a very active duo with a wide-ranging slate. Beyond previously scripting the Kate Beckinsale/Scott Eastwood rescue thriller Stolen Girl, here is where else you may have seen or soon see their work:

  • Developing a Betty Ford feature at Netflix with Sarah Paulson starring and Ryan Murphy directing (Haas is involved there too)
  • May Savidge Moves Her House at Pathe with Helena Bonham Carter starring
  • Suffer, a suffragist home-invasion film, with Tina Gharavi directing
  • Producers on Apple TV+'s Lessons in Chemistry
  • Adapted Diane Ducret's La Dictatrice as a series for FX
  • Developing Young Agatha at Wiip
  • Additional projects set with Monumental Pictures, Universal, A&E, and Apple France

Meanwhile, over in Chainsaw country...

Last month, Barnstorm teamed with Spooky Pictures, Image Nation, Exurbia Films, and A24 on a Texas Chainsaw Massacre TV series, with JT Mollner (Strange Darling) directing. So yes, Powell's producing calendar is officially 'peril and power tools.'

Killer croc movies promise a good time, and when they hit, they really hit. The Death Roll sounds lean and nasty in the right way, so I am in. How about you?
