Netflix has ordered The Boys From Brazil, a limited series adaptation of Ira Levin’s 1976 thriller, with Succession star Jeremy Strong leading as Yakov Lieberman and Gillian Anderson, Lizzy Caplan, and more joining the cast.

Netflix just made it official: Peter Morgan is turning Ira Levin's 1976 thriller 'The Boys from Brazil' into a five-part limited series, and Jeremy Strong is leading the charge. If you like high-stakes period thrillers with a moral spine, this one is aiming straight for that sweet spot.

Who is in it

  • Jeremy Strong as Yakov Lieberman, a Holocaust survivor and Nazi hunter
  • Gillian Anderson as Frieda Steiner
  • Daniel Brühl as Von Harteneck
  • August Diehl as Johann-Friedrich Meinhardt
  • Shira Haas as Anna Koehler
  • Lizzy Caplan as Hannah Liebermann

The team behind it

The show comes from Peter Morgan, best known for 'The Crown.' On the producing side: Suzanne Mackie for Orchid Pictures, Simon Heath for World Productions, and director Alex Gabassi, who is also executive producing. Oona O'Beirn and Andy Stebbing are on board as producers. It is a five-part historical thriller, officially ordered by Netflix.

The setup

The story spans from the immediate aftermath of World War II into the turbulence of the 1970s, following Yakov Lieberman as he spends decades hunting down Nazi fugitives at great personal cost. When one of his young protégés goes undercover in Brazil and uncovers a chilling plan, Lieberman discovers the nightmare isn’t over: Johann-Friedrich Meinhardt, a sadistic Nazi scientist thought to be dead, is alive and orchestrating a scheme designed to jump-start a Fourth Reich. So yes, the stakes are exactly as big as they sound.

"Part historical thriller, part moral reckoning, this series is about obsession, vengeance, and the terrifying persistence of hatred. It asks: When the world chooses to forget its darkest history, who will fight to keep the memory and the justice alive?"

Where and when

Production is expected to kick off next month, shooting across the UK, Germany, Bulgaria, and Spain. With this cast, Morgan at the wheel, and Netflix backing a five-episode run, this is clearly being positioned as a prestige, lean-and-mean take on Levin’s story. Expect plenty of cat-and-mouse, a lot of moral gray, and a ticking clock stretched over three decades.
