The network's popularity is none too surprising.

HBO has long been synonymous with quality TV. This network has produced such giants as Sex and the City, Game of Thrones, Succession, Big Little Lies, The Last of Us, and many more. In early 2022, it released a brand-new series, The Gilded Age, which quickly became a hit and cemented HBO's reputation as the home of the best television.

Set in the 1880s New York of the eponymous historical period, The Gilded Age follows the city's beau monde as the nouveau riche Russell family enters the public scene. Ahead of the show's upcoming second season, slated for release on 29 October, HBO has just released the first trailer. Many fans have taken to social media to praise the numerous changes in the plot they have been advocating for since the premiere of season 1.

Season 1 of The Gilded Age alternated between the arcs of the rich New York families that are the centrepiece of the show and the stories of their servants. Featuring the same beloved characters with their impeccable manners and somewhat flawed Transatlantic accents, season 2 will primarily focus on the rivalry between the Russells and the Brooks as Mrs. Russell appears determined to take over New York's high society. Judging by the trailer, the upcoming second instalment will revolve more around the Russells than anything else.

TGA's fans can hardly contain their excitement about the shift in the show's focus. The Russells were fan favourites from the debut of The Gilded Age. Mrs. Russell's determination and perseverance made fans fall in love with her, while her husband's mild demeanour and wit earned him the viewers' favour. Naturally, people are ecstatic about season 2 and the changes HBO made to meet the fans' expectations.

'More of the Russells and way less of Marian and Peggy. This season looks amazing!' a Reddit user wrote enthusiastically.

Hopefully, the second season of The Gilded Age will indeed prove enjoyable to watch. So far, it's encouraging to see that HBO genuinely values its viewers' opinions and even takes them into account when developing its shows. Season 2 will premiere on 29 October of this year.
