Ghost of Yotei drops without New Game+ at launch, sparking the big question: will Sucker Punch add it later? The Ghost of Tsushima sequel dives back into a sweeping saga of honor and vengeance, now following Atsu across another breathtaking open world.

Ghost of Yotei is finally out. Short version: no New Game+ at launch. If that makes your completionist brain twitch, same. Here is the deal on what is (and isn’t) in the game right now, what Sucker Punch did last time, and why I think we still end up getting NG+ anyway.

The setup

This is the follow-up to Ghost of Tsushima, back in the land of honor, vengeance, and photo-mode bait. You play as Atsu, hunting the Yotei Six across Northern Japan. The story unfolds across Ezo (modern-day Hokkaido), and Sucker Punch leans into open-world freedom again, letting you chart your own path through targets and regions. It is also getting praise for the Mount Yotei recreation — esports commentator MonteCristo posted side-by-sides on Oct 2, 2025 and called the in-game mountain an uncanny match for the real thing. That tracks; the studio is flexing the scenery again.

'#GhostofYotei is now available worldwide! It’s been five years since we launched Ghost of Tsushima, and we are so happy to have another Sucker Punch game in your hands. Thank you to everyone who has supported us and to everyone who plays. We can’t wait to hear your thoughts…'

So... where is New Game+?

Not in the launch build. When you finish Atsu’s main story, the game rewinds your save to right before the final mission. That gives you room to mop up anything you skipped — side quests, bounties, collectibles, the usual cleanup — but if you want to replay the whole campaign, you have to start a fresh file. Nothing carries over: not your armor, not your weapons, not your upgrades.

This is exactly how Ghost of Tsushima launched. Back then, Sucker Punch added New Game+ in a later update, roughly three months after release. If they mirror that cadence here, you’re looking at early 2026 for the NG+ patch. No promises — the studio hasn’t announced it — but the odds feel good. The combat and progression in Ghost of Yotei practically beg for a tougher second run where your build rolls forward.

Also worth flagging: the studio has confirmed post-launch content is coming, including a Legends-style multiplayer mode at some point. New Game+ would slot nicely alongside that and keep people circling back. Until then, it’s open season across Ezo after the credits roll. There is plenty to do without NG+, even if the carry-your-stats fantasy has to wait.

How long does Ghost of Yotei take?

  • Main story only: about 20–25 hours if you beeline Atsu’s revenge tour.
  • Story + side content: roughly 35–50 hours if you mix in bounties, duels, and exploration.
  • Completionist: expect 60–70 hours to clear every collectible, liberate every camp, and chase the Platinum.

The game is split into three main chapters that gradually open new regions across Ezo, and — in a nice echo of Tsushima — you can choose the order you go after the Yotei Six. More freedom, more detours, more time lost to foxes and photo ops.

The bottom line

No New Game+ right now. Based on Sucker Punch’s track record, it’s a good bet we see it in a post-launch update, potentially on a similar three-month timeline, which would land us in early 2026. In the meantime, finish Atsu’s story, chase what you missed, and keep an eye out for that Legends multiplayer drop. If you’re dead set on a maxed-out second run, you may want to hold your fire for a bit — but the map is big enough to keep you busy while we wait.
