Get Ready to Say Goodbye: These 7 CW Shows are Likely to be Canceled
Only one CW show has been renewed for next season - which ones are next?
After last year's merger, their partial separation from major CBS affiliates, and a lot of uncertainty, it seems no show on the CW Network is safe. Going into the 2023-24 season, All American is the only show that has yet to be renewed.
The Flash will officially be ending after this season, ending the Arrowverse along with it. Also set to end are Riverdale and Nancy Drew. Meanwhile, last year marked the end of eleven CW shows, including Stargirl, Charmed (2018), and Roswell, New Mexico.
With so much uncertainty in the air, there are seven shows currently on the 'bubble' - not yet cancelled, not yet renewed.
Gotham Knights
Set in a Batman-less Gotham City, Gotham Knights follows a group of youngsters trying to become heroes. Only premiering this past March, the series has suffered poor ratings and doesn't seem to be among CW's priorities. It's not the first to make the mistake of telling a Batman story without Batman, likely to suffer the same fate as its predecessors.
Superman & Lois
The Lois & Clark for modern audiences, the series follows the power couple navigating relationships as much as heroism. It's garnered solid ratings throughout its three-season run, but the new head of DC James Gunn has all but outright confirmed that Superman & Lois will end after this season, choosing to favor his cinematic storyline.
The Winchesters
Supernatural's popularity on the network predated the CW's current name, and they've since tried to replicate the magic with three spin-offs. The Winchesters is the third attempt, met with mild ratings after its first season. The sheer popularity of Supernatural might be able to keep The Winchesters alive for another season.
Walker
A reboot of the massively popular Walker, Texas Ranger and starring Supernatural's Jared Padalecki as Cordell Walker, Walker's Season 3 has garnered high ratings and averaged about 700,000 same-day viewers. It's been one of the CW's most popular shows, so it seems to be safe going forward.
Walker: Independence
Walker's prequel, on the other hand, might not be so lucky. It's garnered similar critical ratings to Walker, but its first season averaged fewer than half a million viewers. If it's between Walker: Independence or its original series, Independence might end up on the chopping block.
Kung Fu
A remake of the 1972 series with a female lead, Kung Fu just wrapped up its third season to consistently declining viewership. Because of its touted representation of Asian Americans (with a mostly Asian cast), it's one of the most diverse shows on the CW. But with falling ratings, it might be amidst the CW's next wave of cancellations.
All American: Homecoming
While All American has already been saved from cancellation, its spin-off is still in limbo. It garners lower ratings than the original series, but the duo have been a popular combination for CW after Homecoming's second season. Given their combined might and the renewal of All American, it seems likely that CW will keep both series around for another season.
