Sparks are flying in Port Charles as Ryan Paevey teases real heat between Nathan and Lulu—hinting that Maxie could be caught in a can’t-miss love triangle.

General Hospital just cracked open a potential new triangle, and yes, it involves a resurrected ex, a best friend in a coma, and a whole lot of history. Ryan Paevey says he sees sparks between Nathan and Lulu, and honestly, the board is set for maximum soap chaos.

The setup

  • After a long break, Ryan Paevey is back as Nathan West — and the show literally brought him back from the dead.
  • Maxie (Nathan's love before he died in 2018) has been written into a coma while Kirsten Storms steps away for medical reasons.
  • Lulu (Maxie's best friend, Dante's ex-wife, and someone who teamed with Nathan in the past) is a mess emotionally right now.
  • Put that together, and the writers have a believable runway for Nathan and Lulu to connect.

Paevey on the vibe: there are sparks

Talking to Woman's World, Paevey kept it coy but didn’t hide that Nathan and Lulu might be headed somewhere.

"It is always good to have a love interest on a soap, and Nathan could certainly do worse than Lulu... There is definitely chemistry there."

He also pointed out that, from a story perspective, it is kind of a powder keg. Nathan and Dante used to be best friends; Maxie and Lulu have a deep bond. If Nathan and Lulu actually cross that line, there is friction built in from every angle.

Working with the new Lulu

Paevey, who you might also know from Hallmark's Christmas at the Plaza, had nothing but praise for Alexa Havins, who is playing Lulu now. He says the two of them have settled into an easy rhythm: they nail the basics of the scene, then loosen up and play.

What this means for Maxie

Paevey, 41, says he does not know when Kirsten Storms will return as Maxie. If and when she does, he is curious to see how far the Nathan-Lulu dynamic has progressed by then — and how serious it actually gets. Storms did tease a comeback on Instagram, signing off with:

"HAPPY HOLIDAYS and maaaaybe you will be seeing me back in Port Charles soon."

So, unofficial? Yes. Surprising? A little. But between a back-from-the-dead return, a coma exit, and two characters with shared history suddenly orbiting each other again, this has all the makings of the tasty, slow-burn mess soaps live for.
