Grow a Garden’s Halloween event unleashes the Blackout Mutation, a limited-time boost that catapults crop prices by 95x and turns your harvest into instant high-value payouts.

Grow a Garden just snuck in two Halloween mutations that basically turn crops into little ATMs, and the game tells you almost nothing about how any of it works. So here’s the plain-English version, minus the mystery vibes.

Blackout Mutation: the big-money seasonal one

Blackout is a limited-time mutation that multiplies a crop’s sell price by 95x. Yes, ninety-five. If you manage to tag a plant with it, selling suddenly becomes very worth your time.

How you actually get Blackout

Blackout only shows up during the Grim Reaper weather/event on your server. That’s an admin-triggered thing where the whole world flips to black-and-white (picture a Limbo filter), a giant Grim Reaper spawns, and it slams its scythe into the ground. That strike sends up big spikes that fan out into random gardens.

Any plant the spikes touch gets the Blackout Mutation. The plant turns fully black, so it’s obvious when it happens. One important caveat: you can’t force this. It’s luck-based, and the Reaper doesn’t care about your plans. The event may also pop up during the next Admin Abuse event, so keep an eye out for that chaos window.

Can you spread it?

Kind of. If you have pets like the Spinosaurus, T-rex, or Fennec Fox, they can pass the mutation to other plants in your garden. The odds are low, but when the upside is a 95x multiplier, taking that shot is hard to argue with.

Moonbled Mutation: the flashy, still-profitable one

Alongside Blackout, the devs also added the Moonbled Mutation. It’s a 25x price boost — not as wild as 95x, but still a chunky upgrade.

You only get Moonbled when the Marrow Moon weather is live, which (again) is triggered by the devs and doesn’t happen often. When you see it, your Moonbled crops will glow like they’ve swallowed a moon rock — bright, shimmery particles and all. It’s peak Halloween garden decor with real economic benefits.

What to watch for (and what not to stress about)

  • Blackout Mutation: 95x sell price. Only during the Grim Reaper weather/event. World turns black-and-white; Reaper slams scythe; spikes spread into random gardens; any plant hit gets Blackout and turns black.
  • Moonbled Mutation: 25x sell price. Only during Marrow Moon weather. Rare, dev-triggered. Crops glow with mystical particles.
  • Both events are luck-based and server-dependent. You can’t increase the chances, you can only be online and ready when it happens.
  • Pets that can spread Blackout (low odds, but worth a try): Spinosaurus, T-rex, Fennec Fox.
  • Timing note: Grim Reaper weather may also show up during the next Admin Abuse event, so that’s a good window to camp.

Bottom line: these are limited-time Halloween perks with huge payouts, and the game barely explains them. If your server flips to grayscale or the moon gets weird, drop what you’re doing and garden like a maniac. If you catch either mutation, show it off — and yeah, sell smart.
