Netflix revisits one of Colombia’s darkest chapters with Fugue State 1986, a Spanish-language series inspired by the 1986 Pozzetto massacre in Bogotá, streaming worldwide December 4, 2025 with all seven episodes available at launch.

Netflix has a new Spanish-language limited series digging into one of Colombia's bleakest real stories. It's called 'Fugue State 1986' and it lands December 4, 2025, with every episode ready to binge the second it drops.

The real story behind the show

'Fugue State 1986' is inspired by the Pozzetto massacre in Bogotá, a single-night rampage on December 4, 1986 that left 29 people dead and 11 injured. The attacker, Campo Elías Delgado, was a Vietnam War veteran, and his crimes remain the deadliest carried out by a lone shooter in Colombia.

The series tracks two university friends whose shared love of literature curdles into something far darker. We follow León, a literature student, as he realizes his close friend Jeremías has become a mass murderer. Executive producers Mario Mendoza and Rodrigo Guerrero frame the whole thing as a psychological study rather than a rote crime reenactment, digging into faith, friendship, guilt, and the slide into moral collapse. Filming took place across Bogotá, with an eye toward period detail to feel like 1980s Colombia.

"I am that rain. A real rain will clean the streets of scum."

That line from the trailer sets the tone: haunted, angry, and dangerously self-justifying.

Release plan (and the episode-count shuffle)

All seven episodes hit Netflix globally on Thursday, December 4, 2025 at 12:00 am PT / 3:00 am ET. The show was originally scoped as 10 episodes, then, after a change in creative leadership, wrapped at seven. Some early listings even showed eight. Netflix says seven is the final number, and they are all arriving at once.
