Forget Sophie, Benedict Bridgerton Has Already Met His Perfect Match
She and Benedict have a more interesting connection than he will have with Sophie.
Summary
- Season 3 follows Colin's story instead of Benedict's.
- An original character that Benedict met this season is a better match for him than Sophie.
- He and his new flame have a lot in common.
Since its debut on Netflix in 2020, Bridgerton has followed the pattern of Julia Quinn's novels on which it is based. Season 1 was an adaptation of the first book in the series, The Duke and I, which tells the story of the passionate romance between Daphne Bridgerton and Simon Basset. Season 2, about the love story of Anthony Bridgerton and Kate Sharma, was based on the second novel, The Viscount Who Loved Me. But Season 3 is different.
While Quinn's third novel is dedicated to the romantic adventures of Benedict Bridgerton, the third season of the Netflix drama skipped it in favor of the fourth book in the series, Romancing Mister Bridgerton, which focuses on the friends-to-lovers story of Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington.
This can only mean one thing. Benedict will meet the love of his life, Sophie, some time later. But as much as fans are looking forward to it, it seems Benedict doesn't have to look any further.
A Stunning Newcomer
Although Colin and Penelope are the romantic leads of Season 3, they're not the only ones whose love stories the new installment focuses on. Francesca Bridgerton, dubbed the new Diamond, plays just as important a role on the romantic stage of Season 3 as Polin. Violet Bridgerton also seems to be getting into a relationship of sorts with Lady Danbury's brother, Marcus Anderson. And Benedict seems to have found his perfect match.
An original character, Lady Tilley Arnold, portrayed by Hannah New, made her first appearance on Bridgerton at a hot air balloon exhibition in Episode 3 of this season, where she dazzled Benedict with her audacity, interest in engineering and, of course, her heavenly beauty. The two characters hit it off and began a secret and passionate affair.
But could this be more than just another fling for Benedict? And why does Lady Arnold suit him better than Sophie?
A Match Made in Heaven… Or Hell
There are a number of reasons why Tilley and Benedict are perfect for each other, and a few reasons why they might stay together. They have somewhat similar personalities. They both despise convention and the ordinary, seek beauty, and admire the unknown. They are mischievous and hedonistic. And they are lost souls who have finally found each other.
Sure, there's an age difference between Benedict and Tilley, but it's not critical. She's still quite young and can have children, but it's unlikely that either of them wants to have kids. And since Benedict is a spare, he doesn't have to follow social protocol to the letter and have heirs. And as a widow, Lady Arnold is free to marry whomever she pleases, which means she and Benedict could have a life full of fun, adventure, and passion. But alas, Benedict is destined to meet Sophie, who, you may disagree, is much duller than Tilley.
Part 2 of Bridgerton's third season premieres June 13.
