Off the air and racing the clock, the team vows a swift return to broadcast.

Fallout season 2 is almost here, and Jonathan Nolan just set expectations for what happens after that. Short version: cameras are supposed to roll on the next batch of episodes next summer, which puts season 3 in the 2027 zone if everything stays on track. For a show this big, that is refreshingly fast.

So, when are they shooting?

"With regards to production, we're hoping to be shooting again next summer," Nolan told IGN. "We'll see if that all comes together, best laid plans, and all. But I'm excited that, though the scope of the show feels undiminished season on season, our incredibly talented cast and crew were able to work quickly enough to get back on the air in a reasonable amount of time."

He also called out the longer-and-longer waits between TV seasons lately, and yes, he wants no part of that trend.

"I think what's happened with television in terms of taking longer and longer from season to season is an unfortunate trend. You don't want the show to lose any of its scope, but we know that we'd like to be back on the air as soon as we can."

Prime Video clearly feels good about this one

Amazon already locked in a third season back in May, months before season 2 even drops. That's not normal unless the numbers are undeniable. Season 1 was exactly that, landing in Prime Video's top three most-watched titles ever.

Where season 2 picks up (and where it's headed)

The new season jumps in right after the season 1 finale: Lucy has finally learned the truth about her father and decides to head into the wasteland with The Ghoul. From there, the show is taking them to (and through) New Vegas. The latest trailer flashes plenty of game DNA: a nasty radroach swarm, what sure looks like the arm of a Deathclaw, and a grab bag of other fan-favorite bits.

  • Season 2 release: December 17 on Prime Video
  • Season 3 status: officially announced in May
  • Season 3 filming: aiming to start next summer
  • Season 3 release window: 2027 is the likely target if production stays on schedule

Bottom line: season 2 lands December 17, season 3 is moving quickly by modern TV standards, and if Nolan gets his wish, we won't be waiting years between wasteland road trips.
