Fallout Season 1 Is Going Free On Prime Video — But Only For Certain TVs
Vault doors are about to swing open again: Fallout season 2 hits in just weeks, promising a bigger, meaner trip through the wasteland.
Amazon is rolling out the classic get-you-hooked-before-the-new-season move: Fallout season 1 is going free for a limited stretch. The catch? You need a Samsung TV. It is a savvy push ahead of season 2, and Amazon is enlisting some very on-brand partners to do it.
So what is actually free, and where?
Starting December 3, Fallout season 1 will stream for free on Samsung TV Plus, the built-in streaming service on most Samsung TVs made in 2016 or later. No Prime membership needed for that window. The free run lasts through December 25.
Amazon teamed up with Samsung, Bethesda, and Xbox for the promo. Yes, Xbox is in the mix too, which makes sense given Bethesda sits under the same gaming umbrella. Also not subtle: this is basically the same play Apple TV Plus ran when it let people watch Severance season 1 for free before season 2 arrived.
"Prime Video is committed to finding creative and groundbreaking approaches to bring our content to audiences worldwide," Prime Video global head Emily Aldis said of the collaboration. "Prime Video’s established partnership with Samsung enables us to enhance the viewing experience for our shared customers through engaging off-screen marketing collaborations and seamless integration of the Prime Video app on Samsung Smart TVs."
Where season 2 picks up
Season 2 jumps in right where we left off: Lucy (Ella Purnell) heads after the Ghoul (Walton Goggins), trekking over the horizon into New Vegas. Her target is Hank (Kyle MacLachlan) — Lucy’s not-so-trustworthy dad — and the plan is simple enough: find him and bring him in. Expect the lawless Vegas sandbox, Goggins doing his thing, and Lucy getting a lot harder around the edges.
Dates and details to remember
- Fallout season 1 free window: December 3 through December 25 on Samsung TV Plus (Samsung TVs from 2016 and newer).
- Partners on the promo: Amazon/Prime Video, Samsung, Bethesda, and Xbox.
- Fallout season 2 premiere: December 19 on Prime Video.
- Story setup for season 2: Lucy follows the Ghoul to New Vegas to hunt down her father, Hank.
Smart promo, slightly annoying device limitation. If you have the right TV, enjoy the free binge before season 2 drops on December 19.
