Fresh off the Season 2 finale, Fallout co-showrunner Geneva Robertson-Dworet is teasing a bigger, badder Season 3—complete with the long-awaited return of Ron Perlman’s super mutant and fresh insight into his place in the wasteland.

Fallout Season 2 just wrapped, and co-showrunner Geneva Robertson-Dworet is already pointing the compass at Season 3. The headline: more Ron Perlman, a bigger canvas, and the Brotherhood of Steel gearing up for a larger presence.

Perlman’s super mutant wasn’t a one-and-done

If you clocked Ron Perlman’s quick-but-memorable debut in Season 2, Episode 6 — where his super mutant hauls an out-cold Ghoul (Walton Goggins) out of danger — that was very much on purpose. It pays off Perlman’s long history with the franchise (he’s voiced characters across multiple games) and sets him up for more.

Robertson-Dworet, a veteran screenwriter who co-runs the series, made it clear the towering mutant is built for the long haul:

"I’ve always seen that [super mutant] as a big role."

She also teased a broader war map beyond where our core trio is currently wandering. Translation: Season 3 aims bigger — new fronts, new fights — and Perlman’s character is part of that expansion, even if he only popped up once this past season.

The Brotherhood factor (and a flight path to Boston)

Robertson-Dworet is eyeing a deeper dive into the Brotherhood of Steel, including the group’s Boston chapter from Fallout 4. She called out why they’re primed to move the story in new directions:

"I think the Brotherhood of Steel has the most ability in this world for mobility, because they have a dirigible. And the Commonwealth, in our minds, has the greatest tech, and so I’m really excited to see more of the Brotherhood."

Expect the show to treat the Brotherhood less like a monolith and more like a patchwork of far-flung chapters with distinct personalities and priorities. That’s a fertile setup if the series heads toward the Commonwealth and pulls more of those factions into the narrative.

What Season 3 looks poised to deliver

  • Ron Perlman’s super mutant stepping into a larger role, after rescuing the Ghoul in Season 2, Episode 6 — a smart bridge from his long run voicing characters in the games.
  • A wider war on the horizon, with conflicts brewing outside the current stretch of wasteland our heroes know.
  • More Brotherhood of Steel, potentially including the Boston-based chapter from Fallout 4 — with that handy dirigible and the Commonwealth’s top-shelf tech making them a major mover.

No formal Season 3 rollout details yet, but the creative intent is loud and clear. Perlman’s in play, the map’s getting bigger, and the Brotherhood’s keys are in the ignition. That’s a strong hand.
