Exact Kitsune Puzzle Box Locations in Ghost of Yotei — How to Unlock Them All

If you are the type who sees a fox statue and immediately starts poking at every movable piece in the room, Ghost of Yotei absolutely has your number. The game hides 12 Kitsune puzzle boxes around the Teshio region, each paying out coins, charms, or crafting mats, and nabbing the full set unlocks the Trickster Fox trophy. The trick (and this is one of those inside baseball details the game never really explains): the box type is not tied to a specific location. Your first box, no matter where you pick it up, will be the one labeled 'Interesting Box', and so on down the line as you collect them.

Where to find all 12 Kitsune puzzle boxes

You can tackle these in any order. If you just need the places, here are the spots and what to do when you get there.

1. Sakuru Woods - Head to the center of the woods. There is a small hut with soldiers out front. Clear them, then check under the hut for a fallen soldier carrying the box.
2. Shipwreck Shoal - From the Shoal, walk east until you hit a Kitsune Altar tucked at the base of a cliff. The box is sitting directly in front of it.
3. Sarobetsu Forest - Open the map and travel to the forest’s central area, then go north. You will find a snow-dusted Kitsune Altar; the box is resting on its porch.
4. Sentinel Forest - Between Sentinel Forest and Sakuru Woods. From the Sentinel Forest Camp, go due south to a shrine at the base of a tree. The box is there.
5. Teshio Coast - From the coast, head southeast to another Kitsune Altar. As with the others, the box is waiting right in front.
6. Crossroads Trading Post - Defeat Nine-Tails. After the fight, the game routes you to the Altar of Reflection, where you can grab the box.
7. Snow Drift Springs Shrine (Crimson Forest) - Solve the torch puzzle by lighting the correct foxes to open the door. Fight through, clear the enemies, solve the next fox puzzle, and claim the box at the end.
8. Snow's Blight Shrine (northeast of Teshio Coast) - Another locked-door fox-lighting situation. Ignite the required torches, head inside, cut down the resistance, and pick up the box.
9. Deserted Village - Clear the camp with extreme prejudice. Once the area is secured, the Altar of Reflection becomes accessible and the box is yours.
10. Nakajima Ice Cave - At the hideout entrance, rotate the fox statues to open the path. Crawl in, do some light platforming across the wooden scaffolds to the next camp, defeat the enemies, interact with the fox statues as prompted, and continue forward to the box.
11. Soya Port - The port is crawling with Kitsune fighters. Win the skirmish and you will be led to the Altar of Reflection to collect the box.
12. Cape Inari Shrine - This one is a mini gauntlet. At the entrance, squeeze through the rocks on the right, light the fox statue, then come back. Now go left through another rock gap and light the second statue. When the main door unlocks, do a short parkour section, light the final fox statue, climb up a few structures, clear the enemies you spot, and take the last box.

How to open the boxes (and what each one pays out)

After you have your dozen, the real work begins. Each box has its own slide-and-rotate solution. Rewards include coins, Iron Sand, Shinobi Steel, two charms, and a mask. Note: despite there being 12 boxes to find, I have solutions for 11 distinctly named boxes below. If you end up with a twelfth name not listed here, it likely follows the same progressive order but was missing from the notes I pulled together. Everything else checks out.

Interesting Box - Reward: Charm of the Wary Opponent
Solution: 1) Move the black stripe to the left; 2) Slide the front panel downward.

Peculiar Box - Reward: 750 Coin
Solution: 1) Push both black stripes downward; 2) Slide the top panel down.

Fascinating Box - Reward: 7 Iron Sand
Solution: 1) Nudge the black stripe to the right; 2) Drop the front panel; 3) Shift the black stripe back to the left; 4) Drop the front panel again.

Intricate Box - Reward: 8 Shinobi Steel
Solution: 1) Move the upper-left black stripe to the left; 2) Move the lower-right black stripe to the right; 3) Slide both vertical stripes downward.

Manageable Box - Reward: Charm of the Drunken Adversary
Solution: 1) Lower the front panel; 2) Shift the black stripe left; 3) Lower the front a bit more; 4) Shift the black stripe right; 5) Lower the front again; 6) Shift the black stripe right once more; 7) Lower the front yet again; 8) Drop the top panel; 9) Push the front panel down one last time.

Perplexing Box - Reward: 1,500 Coin
Solution: 1) Move the left black stripe to the left; 2) Move the right black stripe to the right; 3) Slide the vertical stripe downward; 4) Shift the whole box to the right side; 5) Push the stripe to the right; 6) Drop the vertical stripe again; 7) Rotate the box to the right twice; 8) Move the stripe to the left; 9) Drop the vertical stripe once more.

Devious Box - Reward: 10 Iron Sand
Solution: 1) Slide the top-left stripe left; 2) Slide the top-right stripe right; 3) Pull both middle stripes down as far as they will go; 4) Move the bottom-left stripe left; 5) Move the bottom-right stripe right; 6) Lower the two middle stripes again.

Challenging Box - Reward: 8 Shinobi Steel
Solution: 1) Push the black stripe to the left; 2) Switch the box view to the right side; 3) Push that stripe left again; 4) Pull the middle vertical stripe down as far as it will slide; 5) Keep rotating the box to the left until you can access the next move; 6) Lower the bottom half of the vertical stripe; 7) Switch the box view back to the right side; 8) Move the black stripe to the right; 9) Continue rotating left (front to back); 10) Move the black stripe to the right; 11) Rotate left again so the panel is on the left side; 12) Move the black stripe to the right; 13) Slide the middle stripe down.

Surprising Box - Reward: 2,000 Coin
Solution: 1) Drop the front panel; 2) Move the black stripe to the right; 3) Raise the front panel (it will catch and not go fully up); 4) Move the black stripe to the right again; 5) Drop the front panel.

Elaborate Box - Reward: 10 Iron Sand
Solution: 1) Pull the right vertical stripe downward; 2) Move the top-left stripe to the left; 3) Drop the left vertical stripe until it sticks; 4) Push the top-left stripe inward and slide the bottom-left stripe left; 5) Drop the lower-left vertical stripe until it sticks; 6) Push the lower-left stripe inward and slide the top-left stripe left; 7) Pull the left vertical stripe down.

Epic Box - Reward: War Cry Mask
Solution: 1) Rotate the box twice to look at the back side from the initial view; 2) Slide the upper half of the vertical stripe up; 3) Slide the lower half down; 4) Move the side stripe to the left; 5) Rotate right; 6) Move that stripe left again; 7) Rotate right to return to the front; 8) Move the left stripe to the left; 9) Pull the middle vertical stripe down as far as possible; 10) Push the left stripe back in; 11) Rotate left; 12) Move the stripe to the right; 13) Rotate left; 14) Move the stripe to the right; 15) Rotate left; 16) Move the stripe to the right; 17) Rotate left; 18) Move the right stripe to the right; 19) Drop the vertical stripe a bit more.
