Prime Video dropped a rom-com called 'Merv' that is exactly what it sounds like: a breakup, a dog who takes it harder than anyone, and a Florida trip that turns into therapy with palm trees. The music matters here, and the movie knows it.

The movie, the music, the vibe

Directed by Jessica Swale and led by Charlie Cox and Zooey Deschanel, 'Merv' tracks exes Russ and Anna as they try to fix their depressed dog by relocating from snowy Boston to sunny Florida. Predictably (and a little adorably), the dog is not the only one who gets a mood lift. It premiered on Prime Video on December 10, 2025.

The original score is by Tom Howe, whose resume includes 'Ted Lasso' and 'Daisy Jones & the Six'. His work here leans heartfelt, a little whimsical, and very openly romantic — the kind of scoring that nudges the story forward without elbowing you in the ribs.

Howe handled the film's original score and the main theme. It stitches together the movie's sweeter, sillier beats with the big emotional turns without turning everything into syrup. Light, sweet, very Florida.
