God Valley birthed legends like Rocks D. Xebec, Blackbeard, Shanks, and Figarland Shamrock—and stained the seas with tragedy. Now, as the Elbaph Arc peels back the curtain, shocking revelations and unexpected players are set to rewrite One Piece history.

Spoiler alert: this digs into major Elbaph arc reveals.

Oda just turned God Valley from a whispered legend into a full-on narrative wrecking ball. That island birthed Rocks, Blackbeard, Shanks, and Figarland Shamrock, and also hosted one of the nastiest events in One Piece history. With the Elbaph chapters filling in the blanks, a lot of long-held assumptions just flipped.

Quick refresher: the World Government held a Native Hunting Competition on God Valley, not just for sport, but to wipe out the Davy clan and bait Rocks D. Xebec into a kill box. What actually happened was messier, meaner, and weirdly intimate. Imu meddled directly. Babies got claimed, stolen, or nearly enslaved. A future Pirate King and the Marine hero teamed up under circumstances that were nothing like the heroic tale we were told. It is a lot. So here is where everyone involved stands now, and how those God Valley choices keep echoing into Elbaph.

Where everyone stands after the God Valley revelations

  • Rocks D. Xebec — Deceased
Real name Davy D. Xebec. One of the strongest pirates ever, and God Valley’s tragic center. The Government designed the hunt to exterminate the Davy clan and draw him out. In chapter 1163, Imu forces drive him into a demonic state; by 1164 he is begging Garp and Roger to put him down before he hurts his own family. We always knew Rocks died. We did not expect this kind of ending.
  • Monkey D. Garp — Alive
His Hero of the Marines story makes a lot more sense now, and not in a way that flatters the title. He helped end Rocks at God Valley as an act of mercy, not triumph. He has refused promotion because he will not work directly under Celestial Dragons. Right now he is a Vice Admiral and currently locked up on Hachinosu after trying to rescue Koby from Blackbeard.
  • Gol D. Roger — Deceased
Executed in Loguetown 24 years before the present, sure, but his God Valley role just got recontextualized. Chapter 1164 shows he and Garp did not ambush Rocks; they answered a desperate plea. Roger’s presence kept the casualty count from getting even uglier.
  • Marshall D. Teach (Blackbeard) — Alive
As a 2-year-old at God Valley, he was literally prey for Celestial Dragons. That does not forgive future Blackbeard behavior, but it definitely reframes it. Today he is one of the Four Emperors and still the most volatile piece on the board, with a crew that might be the scariest in the series.
  • Eris — Deceased
Rocks’s wife and Teach’s mother. She fought to protect Teach during the hunt. Kuma saves her and the toddler Teach from transformed Rocks in chapter 1164, but Teach is later confirmed an orphan, so Eris likely died not long after the incident. We are still waiting on when and how.
  • Saint Figarland Garling — Alive
He pushed God Valley as the hunting ground knowing his partner and kids lived there. He killed the children’s mother when she begged him to stay, then killed the island’s king for objecting to the hunt. Patient and gentle are not the words. Now he has stepped into the Five Elders as the Warrior God of Science and Defense, replacing Saturn, after serving as Supreme Commander of the God’s Knights.
  • Saint Jaygarcia Saturn — Deceased
Oversaw God Valley’s chaos and confronted Kuma there. Imu possessed him then, just like we are seeing now with Gunko in Elbaph. In the present, Imu kills Saturn after he fails to stop Vegapunk’s broadcast and eliminate Luffy.
  • Monkey D. Dragon — Alive
Before he became the World’s Worst Criminal and Revolutionary Army chief, Dragon was a 17-year-old Marine sent to God Valley under the lie of a training exercise. He sees what the Government really is, walks away, and starts saving people then and there. He tries to rescue newborn Shanks and Shamrock; he only gets Shanks out. He also tranquilizes a Celestial Dragon to save Kuma. Much bigger role than anyone guessed.
  • Shanks — Alive
Born on God Valley. His mother is murdered by his father, Garling. Dragon honors her dying wish and gets Shanks out of that life, though Shanks ultimately winds up hidden in a treasure chest that Taro of the Roger Pirates later takes aboard. That finally explains how he met Roger’s crew. Today he is one of the Four Emperors and the last of the originals still standing.
  • Figarland Shamrock — Alive
Shanks’s twin. When Dragon tries to save both babies, Saint Satchels Maffey intervenes, injures Dragon, and grabs Shamrock. He grows up in Mary Geoise as a Celestial Dragon and becomes a God’s Knight under Garling’s command. He leads the first wave of the Elbaph invasion.
  • Saint Shepherd Sommers — Alive
A God’s Knight for at least 38 years with no sign of aging. His Iba Iba no Mi is a problem, in Elbaph and back in God Valley. Cruel by choice: he taunts a child toward a bed of thorns and tries to win the hunt to enslave Shakuyaku, then decides he would rather kill her. Rayleigh shuts him down back then. He is now deployed to Elbaph.
  • Saint Manmayer Gunko — Alive
God’s Knight service going back at least 56 years, also not aging. Co-led the start of the Elbaph invasion with Shamrock and stayed behind when he withdrew. She seems to know Brook from her childhood, but that memory has been wiped. Imu is currently riding her body. Chapter 1159 also shows she was a Native Hunting participant who relishes violence and has a short fuse. She was present when Rocks confronted Imu in their garden 56 years ago. Odds say she ends up switching sides.
  • Saint Satchels Maffey — Status unknown
Another God’s Knight in the God Valley mix. She is ordered to retrieve the twins, wounds Dragon, and then gets cut clean in half by Whitebeard. Thanks to the God’s Knights’ whole immortality thing, she heals and flees, taking only Shamrock in the confusion while missing Shanks. Her current location is a question mark.
  • Bartholomew Kuma — Alive
Marked a Super Rare Rabbit because he is a Buccaneer, Kuma is dragged to God Valley to be hunted. Dragon saves him. After gaining the Nikyu Nikyu no Mi, Kuma frees 500 slaves and, in chapter 1164, pulls Eris and little Teach out from under demon-Rocks at the last second. Now he is a Revolutionary Army founder and Bonney’s adoptive dad.
  • Emporio Ivankov — Alive
A captured target at God Valley who turns the chaos into an escape plan. He helps secure Kuma’s Devil Fruit and nearly eats the Uo Uo no Mi, Model: Seiryuu, until Big Mom and Kaido intervene. In the present he is the Revolutionary Army’s G Army commander, Kamabakka’s queen, and the person who trained Sanji.
  • Ginny — Deceased
Bonney’s biological mother and, later, the East Army commander under the Revolutionary banner when they were still the Freedom Fighters. At God Valley she hijacks Celestial Dragon communications, identifies the rare prizes, and broadcasts enough to drag the Roger Pirates, Rocks Pirates, and Marines into the same meat grinder. She is later captured, forced into becoming an unnamed Celestial Dragon’s eighth wife, contracts Sapphire Scales Disease, and dies.
  • Silvers Rayleigh — Alive
Roger’s right hand is at God Valley to save Shakuyaku, not just to clash with Rocks. He used to dodge commitment; God Valley changes his mind. He rescues her, they have their reunion, and the trust they show on Sabaody makes perfect sense now.
  • Shakuyaku — Alive
Revealed as the world’s most beautiful woman at the time, which turns her into the hunt’s ultimate prize. Roger and Rocks are both smitten. Garling wants to force a marriage, Sommers has worse in mind, and Rayleigh ultimately saves her. She still runs Shakky’s Rip-off Bar on Sabaody with her husband.
  • Scopper Gaban — Alive
Roger’s left hand, fiercely focused on getting Shakuyaku out. After Rayleigh saves her, Roger orders Gaban to back up the crew and move the treasure. He finally gets proper screentime in the Elbaph arc, living quietly with his wife Ripley and son Colon. He is still a force; Gunko only puts him down by threatening his kid.
  • Edward Newgate (Whitebeard) — Deceased
Part of the Rocks crew at God Valley, skeptical of Rocks as a leader but still stands with him against Imu’s possession via Saturn. He later becomes an Emperor, adopts Ace and a hundred sons, earns the World’s Strongest Man title, and dies at Marineford after telling the world the One Piece is real.
  • Charlotte Linlin (Big Mom) — Status unknown, presumably dead
Also on Rocks’s crew at God Valley. She is after two Devil Fruits and wants the Uo Uo no Mi, Model: Seiryuu for Katakuri, but Kaido steals it, so no, she never gave it to him. She becomes an Emperor, is beaten in Wano by Law and Kid, and may or may not have died in the volcano.
  • Kaido — Status unknown, presumably dead
Young but already terrifying at God Valley. He steals the Uo Uo no Mi, Model: Seiryuu from Big Mom and immediately shows it off to Rocks and Whitebeard, then helps them push back against Imu’s interference. Later he becomes an Emperor and the World’s Strongest Creature, rules Wano, and falls to Luffy. After he drops into the magma, his fate is unconfirmed.

What the hell just happened, in context

God Valley was not a simple good-vs-evil brawl. It was a Celestial Dragon blood sport engineered to wipe out an entire family line and corner a monster. The twist is that Rocks is both the monster and the victim. Imu’s direct possession of Saturn there, and now of Gunko in Elbaph, makes the uppermost level of power feel a lot less abstract and a lot more predatory.

The other shockers: Dragon as a teenage Marine who walks out on the spot, Shanks literally smuggled off the island in a treasure chest, and the God’s Knights apparently not aging and regenerating from being bisected. Also, Shakuyaku being the prize that pulled in legends from every corner is a wild pivot that actually ties a ton of character motivations together. It also means all four original Emperors were present at the same hellish event before they were legends. That is not subtle foreshadowing.

Curious where you land after all this. Which of these character turns hit you hardest? If you are catching up, the anime is on Crunchyroll and the manga is on VIZ.
