General Hospital star Van Hansis weighs in on the Lucas and Britt feud, teasing whether these longtime enemies can finally bury the hatchet—and what it would take to turn their tangled history into a truce.

If you were hoping General Hospital might turn Lucas and Britt into besties anytime soon, you might want to lower the bar. Van Hansis just weighed in on the feud, and while he appreciates a good olive branch, he is not exactly predicting hugs and forgiveness.

Where things stand

Fans know this mess did not start yesterday. Lucas Jones and Britt Westbourne have been circling each other for years thanks to one of the show’s wildest story turns: Britt stole Lulu’s embryo and used it to have her biological son, Rocco. That history has kept Lucas and Britt on opposite sides of pretty much everything ever since.

  • Britt’s past move: stealing cousin Lulu’s embryo to have Rocco.
  • Fallout: a long, prickly relationship with Lucas that never really cooled off.
  • Current complication: Britt is trying to get her medical license back, and Lucas is suddenly part of that conversation.

About that December 11 gesture...

On the December 11 episode, Lucas surprised everyone by offering to write Britt a recommendation as she works to reinstate her medical license. Sounds like the first step toward detente, right? Hansis told Soap Opera Digest not to read too much into it. He likes the thorny vibe these two have. Translation: consider this a plot wrinkle, not a peace treaty.

"I think Britt and Lucas maybe get some enjoyment out of ripping into each other and being snarky with each other... And it’s certainly very fun to play!"

On screen: enemies. Off screen: instant click.

Hansis also talked up working with Kelly Thiebaud, who plays Britt. He said they clicked right away and that their scenes are a blast precisely because the characters genuinely do not like each other. In other words, the on-screen barbs are sharper when the real-life rapport is strong. He even called the Lucas/Britt dynamic one of his favorites to play, thanks to that playful antagonism.

The takeaway: expect Lucas to keep throwing shade while still helping Britt when it suits him, and expect Britt to give it right back. A full-on reconciliation? Possible, sure. But based on Hansis’s read, do not hold your breath.
