Emma Thompson Has a Famous Sister Who Also Starred in Harry Potter – But Nobody Noticed
It's easy to get outshined starring in a hit movie next to your famous sibling.
They say that fame runs in families — celebrities often have celeb parents or siblings or marry other famous people. Inevitably, this leads to one of the family stars outshining the other, and this is clearly the case with the Thompson sisters.
Most viewers are familiar with the works of Dame Emma Thompson, who is best known for her roles in Sense and Sensibility, Love Actually, Nanny McPhee, and the Harry Potter movies. But not every fan knows that the renowned actress has a younger sister, Sophie Thompson, who also happened to play a minor role in one of the Harry Potter films alongside her famous sibling.
Sophie Thompson is featured briefly in the first part of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, where she portrayed Mafalda Hopkirk — the witch that Hermione had to turn into to get within the walls of the Ministry of Magic.
Although Sophie's time on screen was quite limited, she still managed to share an epic scene with Daniel Radcliffe and other key actors, as their characters were attacked by a pack of Dementors in the Ministry's elevator.

The actress has starred in a number of popular TV shows, too. For instance, Sophie portrayed Stella Crawford in the beloved British soap opera EastEnders in 2006–2007. Detectorists' Sheila is yet another big role of hers.
The younger Thompson made appearances in BBC's crime comedy drama Death in Paradise and Netflix's hit series Sex Education. One of her earliest and most prominent roles was in the classic 1990s movie Four Weddings and a Funeral.
A brilliant actress with a number of awards in her portfolio, Sophie Thompson must feel a little upset because her career achievements often go unnoticed by the public, while her older sister remains in the spotlight.
And, let's be honest, Emma Thompson's fame is so great, it's impossible to compete with. Her celebrity husband would surely agree.
