Emma Stone Reunites With Poor Things Director as Bugonia Locks Streaming Premiere Date
Peacock has set the streaming debut for Bugonia, Emma Stone’s latest team-up with director Yorgos Lanthimos—a sci-fi dark comedy inspired by the 2003 South Korean cult hit Save the Green Planet!, following two conspiracy-obsessed misfits who abduct a powerful CEO.
Yorgos Lanthimos and Emma Stone are back at it, and yes, it gets weird in the best way. Their new sci-fi dark comedy-thriller Bugonia finally has a streaming date, and the premise is exactly the kind of unhinged that makes you lean forward.
It is based on the 2003 South Korean film Save the Green Planet!, and swaps in Lanthimos and company for a very modern spin: two guys deep in conspiracy land kidnap a powerful CEO because they are convinced she is an alien plotting to wipe out humanity. From there, it turns into a tug-of-war over reality, power, and who is actually in control.
'Two conspiracy-obsessed young men kidnap a powerful CEO they believe is an alien out to destroy humanity.'
That is the official setup. The movie then digs into the paranoia until it breaks something.

Emma Stone and Lanthimos working together again is the headline, but the behind-the-scenes combo here is pretty wild too: Will Tracy on the script, Ari Aster producing, and CJ ENM backing after steering Parasite. The movie has already played like gangbusters on the festival circuit (Venice launch), and the early hardware attention lines up with that 87% score.
Bottom line: if you like your holiday viewing a little twisted, Bugonia hits Peacock on December 26. Bring your skepticism and maybe a stress ball.
