Emma Stone and Chris Pine’s New Movie Finally Has a Title — First Details Revealed
Emma Stone and Chris Pine are teaming up for a newly titled romantic film, with first details now breaking on the star-powered project, according to Deadline.
Emma Stone and Chris Pine are lining up a rom-com together, and the title is already locked: The Catch. Two charming leads, one glossy premise we have to assume, and a director with sharp comedy chops. Feels right.
What we know right now
- Title: The Catch
- Genre: Romantic comedy
- Director: Dave McCary (Stone's husband)
- Writers: Patrick Kang and Michael Levin
- Status: Stone and Pine are expected to star, with deals being finalized
- Plot, additional casting, and release date: still under wraps
Where this fits in their schedules
If everything closes, The Catch would be next up for Stone following two already-dated projects: Eddington in 2024 and Bugonia in 2025. She is coming off a recent Best Actress Oscar win, so expectations will be high no matter what she picks.
Pine has the 2026 romantic drama Carousel on deck, written and directed by Rachel Lambert. He most recently headlined 2025's The Kidnapping of Arabella, and before that popped in Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, Don't Worry Darling, and a handful of other studio-friendly swings.
Who is steering this ship
Dave McCary spent 2013–2018 crafting segments and writing at Saturday Night Live, which explains the comedy muscle. His lone feature in the director chair so far is 2017's Brigsby Bear, a small, sweet oddball that turned into a cult favorite. Since then he has been busy on the producing side with Problemista, I Saw the TV Glow, and A Real Pain.
That is the file at the moment: title, team, and a promising pairing, with everything else under wraps. When the logline, cast, and date land, I will update.
