Emma Mackey is turning the temperature to subzero for Greta Gerwig’s Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew, teasing a formidable White Witch and hinting to Entertainment Tonight at a transformation fans won’t expect.

Emma Mackey just tossed a tiny log on the Narnia fire, and yes, I know, the whole thing is still a big mystery. She was asked about playing the White Witch in Greta Gerwig's The Magician's Nephew and basically said... almost nothing, but in a charming way that makes it sound like she is absolutely in it.

So what did she actually say?

Talking to Entertainment Tonight, Mackey was asked about her 'transformation' into the White Witch. No spoilers, no details, just enthusiasm and a wink that this thing is happening.

'What do you think? Nada! But I am very excited, I mean beyond happy, to be working with Greta again, and to be telling this story... I think people are in for a treat, I think it is going to be wonderful.'

ET posted the clip on social on December 10, 2025. That is the extent of the official chit-chat.

The awkward part: casting is still 'unannounced'

Here is where it gets a little messy. Studio line: plot is under wraps and no casting is officially announced. Meanwhile, Mackey is out here happily talking about being the White Witch. On top of that, Charli XCX is reportedly in talks for the very same role. If you are confused, welcome to film development.

Also floating around: Daniel Craig (yes, Bond) has an offer to join the movie. He has not publicly said yes or no, and no one is saying who he would play.

What we actually know right now

  • Film: The Chronicles of Narnia: The Magician's Nephew, directed by Greta Gerwig.
  • Release plan: two-week global IMAX run in November 2026, then on Netflix Christmas 2026.
  • Official casting: none announced.
  • Emma Mackey: teasing a White Witch turn, very excited to reunite with Gerwig, promises audiences are in for a treat.
  • Daniel Craig: has an offer; role unknown; no decision announced.
  • Charli XCX: in talks for the White Witch.
  • Plot: still locked down.
  • Gerwig resume refresher: Barbie; co-directed Nights and Weekends (2008); directed Lady Bird (2017) and Little Women (2019); co-wrote Frances Ha (2012) and Mistress America (2015).

Bottom line

Mackey is playing coy but confident, the White Witch chatter is oddly contradictory, and the studio is keeping everything else welded shut. The upside: Gerwig is steering, the timeline is set, and if Mackey's hype is any indication, they are aiming big.
