Episode 9: The almost-reunion in Rome
In episode 9, "La Belle Epoque," Gabriel reaches out to Emily about his chef knives he left behind. They end up meeting at the train station while he is passing through Rome, grab lunch, and have the conversation that has been brewing forever. He admits he came all the way to Rome just to see her, but when he saw her happy with Marcello, he kept his distance. They part on good terms, basically agreeing they just want each other to be happy. Classic almost-but-not-quite timing.
Finale: The Venice ring fakeout
In the finale, "Veni, Vidi, Venezia," Emily spots a ring in Marcello's bag during a dinner in Venice and assumes he is about to pop the question. Not quite. The ring is actually for his brother Nicolas to use when he proposes to Mindy.
Marcello then asks Emily to move to Solitano and join him at Muratori permanently. Emily turns him down — her life is in Paris — and they call it quits, mutually, and move on.
So who does Emily end up with?
No one. Emily returns to Paris solo. After the breakup, Sylvie texts Gabriel to let him know Emily is single, which is the show quietly cracking a window for that relationship down the line.
