Eddie & Jamie's Lack of Chemistry is Still the Most Boring Thing in Blue Bloods
Something needs to be done with these two.
Over Blue Bloods' 13-season run, fans have come to expect the CBS police procedural to deliver suspenseful plots and well-developed character arcs as surely as Reagan Sunday dinners. Unfortunately, the last season proved that nothing can be taken for granted, and even the most compelling stories can grow stale over time.
This is exactly what viewers feel has happened to Jamie and Eddie Reagan. Almost every fan discussion following the airing of Season 13 seems to include this or some other form of criticism aimed at Will Estes and Vanessa Ray's characters and their relationship.
'Eddie and Jamie don't have chemistry and are boring,' a disappointed fan wrote on Reddit recently, perfectly summing up the feelings of many.
When Eddie Janko joined the 12th Precinct as Jamie's new partner in Season 4, she was an exciting new character who changed the dynamic of the show. The relationship between the youngest Reagan and the newcomer developed as an exciting slow burn. When they finally kissed in Season 7, viewers could feel the sexual tension coming off the screen.
That crazy chemistry, however, disappeared over the next few seasons and was nonexistent in Season 13. It almost feels like the characters' married life killed the romance and offered nothing good in return.
'Heck, they were more "exciting" when they were just partners arguing over food all the time!' a fan commented on the couple's married life.
People have noted that once the tension between Jamie and Eddie was removed, both characters seemed to reveal their worst traits. Jamie has never been the most adventurous man in the world, and married life has made him completely dull.
As for Eddie, fans say her most annoying trait is that she is a 'pain in the ass.' The woman constantly finds herself meddling in other people's business, even when they don't ask her to, and argues with everyone.
After marrying Jamie, Eddie has developed the irritating habit of going to him whenever she doesn't like something, which is completely out of character for the bad girl she used to be in the previous seasons.
All in all, it seems like the Blue Bloods writers didn't know what to do with Jamie and Eddie's arcs after they finally got into a relationship, and it made both characters almost unbearable on screen. So, the biggest challenge for Season 14 will be to bring these two back into the interest of the fans with some thrilling storylines.
