Dwayne Johnson has started filming Jumanji 3 in Los Angeles and marked day one with a tribute to Robin Williams, unveiling a behind-the-scenes Easter egg that salutes the 1995 classic.

Dwayne Johnson just hit day one on the next Jumanji and immediately pulled on the heartstrings: he is literally wearing the original board game dice as a necklace. Yes, the 1995 film dice. Yes, as a tribute to Robin Williams. And yes, he said the words "big finale."

Day one on set, with a Robin Williams nod baked in

Johnson kicked things off with a quick behind-the-scenes video from the Universal Studios lot in Los Angeles, where cameras are now rolling. In the clip, he reveals a new piece of Dr. Smolder Bravestone's costume: a necklace threaded with the dice from the original 1995 Jumanji. It is a straight-up homage to Robin Williams and the movie that started it all.

"This is the dice from the original Jumanji with Robin Williams, as a show of respect and a way of honoring Robin and this entire franchise that he started, as we film our very last Jumanji, the big finale."

Will this actually be the end? That is how Johnson framed it on day one. We will see.

First cast photo and a clear tease about the plot

Shortly after, the official Jumanji Instagram dropped the first in-costume group shot of Johnson, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan, and Jack Black. They are standing against a city backdrop with the caption: "Look who's on the loose." That is not subtle. It lines up with the Jumanji: The Next Level post-credits tag where a repairman accidentally fired up the console and a flock of ostriches from the game spilled into the real world. Translation: the avatars may be breaking out of the game this time.

Who is back, where it is happening, and when you will see it

Director Jake Kasdan is back with the returning quartet of Johnson, Hart, Gillan, and Black. Production officially began in Los Angeles on November 11, 2025, with Johnson filming that video on the Universal Studios lot. And in case you are wondering: yes, it is a Sony movie shooting on a Universal lot. Studios rent stages. It is normal.

Sony has the sequel dated for a theatrical release on December 11, 2026. This follows the massive runs of Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (2017) and Jumanji: The Next Level (2019).
