What the show is doing (and why it works)
Walking on Thin Ice is a crime thriller about Kang Eun-soo, an ordinary housewife who slides into drug dealing to save her terminally ill husband, Bae Soo-bin. That desperation pivot is the fuse, and the show spends its time watching the burn.
Early episodes reintroduced Lee Young Ae to primetime as Eun-soo and sketched out Lee Kyung, an art teacher with a side gig as a secret drug dealer. On the other side, Detective Jang Tae Gu keeps closing the distance. The tension is less about big twists and more about how each lie poisons the next decision, which is fun in that agonizing, 'oh no, do not do that' way.
Episode 9: what to expect
This is the ninth of 12 episodes in Season 1, with a runtime around 1 hour and 10 minutes. Coming out of the last episode, Eun-soo's off-the-books dealings put her squarely on Tae Gu's radar. With him inching closer to the truth, Episode 9 is set up for confrontations and fallout, the kind where right and wrong blur and everyone pays for older choices. In short: the bill is due.
