Don't Worry, Bridgerton Fans, Season 3 Will Still Debut in 2023 As Planned
More than that, we can name its most realistic release date!
Dear readers, your time of obsessively re-reading Julia Quinn's novels and binge-watching the first two seasons of Bridgerton may be coming to a pleasant end. Bridgerton Season 3 has every chance of being released this year, despite the concerns of many fans.
The good news came with Shonda Rhimes' recent interview for Virgin Radio UK, where the iconic showrunner confirmed that filming and editing for Season 3 have been completed.
'We've finished filming and editing,' Rhimes said. 'I'm having a lot of fun working on cuts to the show.'
Rhimes didn't reveal much else about the upcoming season, which centers on the love story of fan-favorite characters Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington. But for the fandom, the information that production is coming to an end sounds like music to ears. With no release date announced for the new chapter, many Regency-era fans were worried that they wouldn't get to see the Colin/Penelope romance until 2024.
The gap between Season 2 and 3 is already over a year, which is nothing new to the Bridgerton fandom, who waited 15 months for the second season to premiere. But earlier this year, rumors spread that some storylines were being rewritten and refilmed because Rhimes was unhappy with their overall direction. Also, it seems that all of the press and crew's attention, as well as Season 3's time slot, has been given to the show's prequel, Queen Charlotte, which is set to premiere on May 4.
However, the new information from Rhimes proves what fans have been theorizing all along: the most likely release date for Bridgerton Season 3 is August 25. The reasoning behind the date is more than plausible.
Why August?
Queen Charlotte is an important project for the Bridgerverse, so it needs time to shine, and the marketing team won't want to release Bridgerton Season 3 too close to it. At the same time, the creators have said that there won't be a significant gap between the two shows, making August the perfect month for the release.
Why 25th?
Seasons 1 and 2 premiered on Fridays, December 25, 2020, and March 25, 2022, respectively. So it would be a fun moment for the fandom if the new season is also released on Friday the 25th — and August is the only month this year when the 25th falls on a Friday.
Four months is more than enough to wrap up the post-production phase, so it looks like Bridgerton fans are in for a double treat this year.
