Don't Expect Young Sheldon Season 7 Earlier Than Fall 2024

We still have to wait for the actors' strike to end as SAG-AFTRA continues to negotiate with the AMPTP to reach satisfactory results on key demands. Nevertheless, it is entirely possible that the major studios will finally moderate their greed and make concessions, as they did with the writers. All in all, the signs are that the television industry is on the road to recovery.

With the end of the WGA strike, work has resumed on many projects as writers' rooms are revitalized and ready to start working on scripts. One of those projects happens to be CBS' Young Sheldon, whose Season 7 development seems to be in full swing. But it looks like we won't be seeing any new episodes for a while.

The Story So Far

The Season 6 finale left us with an unbearable cliffhanger. There has been a lot of speculation based on an adult Sheldon's anecdotes from The Big Bang Theory. Will there be a betrayal on George's part that will forever traumatize little Shelly? Will George eventually die? Will Sheldon move to Pasadena this year?

The fears did not come true, although the plot clearly leads us to these fateful events: Sheldon has left for Germany, and there was a devastating tornado in Medford (which may force Mary to move back to Texas). That said, the above events that will change Sheldon forever could happen as early as Season 7.

Some Exciting News

We don't know if the upcoming season will be the last (CBS has only renewed the show for Season 7 in 2021), but we have plenty of reasons to be pumped. Especially since the script is apparently back in development!

According to Deadline, the Young Sheldon writers’ room, which went on hiatus in May, is ready to pick up where it left off, which means that all the details of the next season will be worked out in the next few months.

Potential Release Window

As for a release date, that remains unknown, naturally. The only thing we do know is that Young Sheldon is still on the CBS schedule for the fall of 2023-2024, but they will probably be rerunning old episodes.

Given the time it took to produce the previous seasons, we can assume that work on Season 7 will take about six months or more, and it's unlikely that CBS would want to move the show as a midseason replacement. In other words, we should expect the continuation of the Cooper family story closer to the fall of 2024.
