Their absence raises a major plot question.

Dear Outlander fans, we have some good news and some bad news for you. The good news is that Outlander Season 7 Part 2 is landing on Starz on schedule and will not be delayed by the Hollywood strikes. The exact date for the season premiere has not yet been announced by the network, but it is expected to air in early 2024.

The bad news is that two fan-favorite characters won't be returning for the upcoming episodes. Executive producer of the show Maril Davis confirmed in an interview with Express.co.uk that neither Marsali, played by Lauren Lyle, nor Fergus, portrayed by Cesar Domboy, will appear in the new installment.

'Unfortunately, we'll not see Marsali and Fergus this season,' Davis said. 'Lauren was busy with a couple of other things as was Cesar, so you know, that was purposely in talking with those actors and where we decided to take this season, we don't see their stories unfortunately.'

What does it mean for the show?

The absence of Marsali and Fergus Fraser in Season 7 raises a big question about Jamie and Claire's future.

5 Outlander Episodes That Should Come with a Serious WarningWe last saw the couple in Season 6, leaving Fraser's Ridge for New Bern to provide the best life possible for their children, particularly Henry-Christian, who was born dwarfed and was maligned by the townspeople. The family has had its fair share of drama, but Jamie has helped them to settle in.

Marsali and Fergus have not been seen in the series since. However, all of Diana Gabaldon's readers expected them to play a major role in Part 2 of Season 7. You see, if the show follows the books, Henri-Christian is about to have a health scare that will bring Claire, the only medical professional who can help the boy, back to America.

This is how Claire and Jamie split up. She goes to America, and he stays in Scotland with the promise to follow her on the ship that comes later. This turns out to be a huge storyline, as Jamie's ship disappears, leaving Claire alone in a hostile society.

But without Marsali or Fergus, what will lure Claire back to America? We will have to wait until 2024 to find out how the writers will work around that.
