The actors made a nice reference to their famous work.

It's been over a month since the premiere of season 3 of Only Murders in the Building. The latest installment of the beloved Hulu show, starring Selena Gomez, Martin Short, and Steve Martin, returned to the screen in early August after a year-long hiatus, giving the characters a new mystery to get at the bottom of.

Season 3 features fan favorites Mabel Mora, Oliver Putnam, and Charles-Haden Savage as they investigate a mysterious murder that occurred on the stage of their theater show. So far, nine episodes have been released, with only the finale remaining. The penultimate episode offered some hints about what to expect from the season finale, and notably, it paid a heartwarming tribute to a classic comedy.

Bride Walking Scene

As the fan-favorite trio is running out of time to stop an innocent person from confessing to the murder, they rush to the courthouse, all dressed for a wedding. Suddenly, a bailiff stands in their way. Luckily, Mabel says they're on their way to her wedding: her whole rationale for donning a wedding dress to get to the courthouse in a hurry was hinged on the belief that 'nobody stops a bride.' At the same time, Martin Short's Oliver and Steve Martin's Charles claim they are the 'fathers of the bride.'

While this scene is hilarious in and of itself, it cleverly includes an Easter egg, referencing the actors' famous 1990s comedy of the same name – Father of the Bride.

Hit Film

Martin Short and Steve Martin are comedy legends. Their performance in Three Amigos! is a gem. Moreover, the Father of the Bride franchise that both actors starred in is one of the finest film series produced in the 1990s.

Released in 1990, Father of the Bride was an instant hit. Focusing on the stereotypical story of a complicated father-daughter relationship, the film emerged as one of the best family comedies ever, grossing $129 million on a $20 million budget. The second installment was released in 1995. Although it didn't make as big of a splash, it further solidified the franchise's popularity with audiences worldwide.

As for Only Murders in the Building, Hulu will drop the third season finale on October 3.
