Twenty years on, the scandal that rocked the Beckhams still looms — rumors of David Beckham’s alleged 2003 affair flared after he was seen with a mystery woman later identified in reports as Rebecca Loos.

David and Victoria Beckham have spent more than 20 years living with the fallout from one very loud chapter in their marriage. The tabloid storm never really goes away, and every few years it pops back up thanks to a new interview, a docuseries, or a fresh anniversary post. Here is how the whole thing started, what each person has actually said, and where they all landed.

How the scandal kicked off

Back in 2003, David Beckham was photographed with a woman the press couldn’t identify at first. She was later named as Rebecca Loos, Beckham’s personal assistant. In 2004, Loos went public with a claim that she and Beckham had an affair. She said she wanted to control the narrative rather than have it spiral without her.

"It is better that it comes from me and that I have some sort of control," Loos said at the time.

Beckham denied her account immediately and repeatedly. He argued the stories were ridiculous and that he was happily married with a young family.

"The simple truth is that I am very happily married and have a wonderful wife and two very special kids. There is nothing any third party can do to change this."

Loos doubles down in 2025

Two decades later, Loos resurfaced on 60 Minutes Australia in 2025 and stood by everything she said. She described being tempted early on and framed the situation as her versus a machine she could not match.

"He just kept looking at me and I gave in."

"I have stuck to the truth, I have never exaggerated. I never lied about a single thing. Why? Because I am going up against the strongest, most powerful couple in the media. And all I had on my side was the truth."

Her timeline has always centered on Beckham’s 2003 move to Spain to play for Real Madrid, when Victoria stayed in the UK with their sons Brooklyn and Romeo.

Other claims surfaced too

Loos was not the only person who claimed an affair. Two more women, Sarah Marbeck and Celina Laurie, alleged they slept with Beckham in 2001 and 2002. The Beckhams responded with a joint statement dismissing those stories and declined to say more.

What David and Victoria said later

In Netflix’s 2023 docuseries Beckham, David didn’t rehash specifics but did talk about how brutal that period was for their marriage.

"There were some horrible stories that were difficult to deal with... It was the first time that me and Victoria had been put under that kind of pressure in our marriage."

"I do not know how we got through it in all honesty... We are fighters... we needed to fight for each other, we needed to fight for our family."

Victoria was even more blunt in the docuseries, calling it the hardest stretch their relationship has faced.

"It felt like the world was against us... And here is the thing — we were against each other if I am being completely honest."

She had addressed it once before in 2007, telling W Magazine it was a difficult time for both families and that they emerged stronger.

"I am not going to lie. It was a really tough time... We have come out of everything we have been through stronger and happier."

She revisited it again in 2025 on Alex Cooper’s podcast Call Her Daddy, connecting it to their latest milestone.

"We have had so much thrown at us... people said it would not work. 26 years, we have had so much, and we have always just been there together and just ridden the storm."

Loos fires back (again), then looks forward

When the Netflix doc reignited interest in 2023, Loos told the Daily Mail that Beckham should take responsibility and criticized him for positioning himself as the victim. She also said she regrets how she handled things in 2004 and has tried not to make choices that hurt others since.

"I was very sorry for what I had done and the way I handled it."

These days, Loos lives away from the spotlight. She is married, has two children, and works as a yoga teacher. She still maintains that her original claims were true.

The messy timeline, at a glance

  • 2003: Beckham moves to Real Madrid; rumors begin after he is seen with an unidentified woman later named as assistant Rebecca Loos.
  • 2004: Loos publicly alleges an affair; Beckham denies it.
  • 2007: Victoria tells W Magazine the period was very tough but says they came out stronger.
  • 2023: Netflix’s Beckham revisits the strain on the marriage; David and Victoria discuss how hard it was.
  • 2023: Loos says he should take responsibility, while expressing regret over her own handling of it.
  • 2025: Loos reiterates her claims on 60 Minutes Australia; Victoria reflects on 26 years of marriage on Call Her Daddy.

Where they are now

David and Victoria are still together and marked their 26th wedding anniversary in July. They have four kids: Brooklyn, Romeo, Cruz, and Harper. The docuseries Beckham is streaming on Netflix if you want the couple’s version in their own words, slick editing and all. The rest of it — the conflicting memories, the he-said-she-said, the way public and private life collide — is the part no one can fully tidy up, even 20 years later.
