Michael Jordan keeps his life locked down, but the internet thinks he just cracked the door. After teaming with Ben Affleck on Air, the NBA icon is back in the spotlight, sparking a surge of rumors about a side fans have never seen.

Michael Jordan does not talk much, which is probably why the internet loses its mind any time his name pops up. Case in point: a goofy rumor just turned MJ into the main character on X (formerly Twitter), and nobody took it seriously — they just had fun with it.

The rumor: MJ has a burner and he is poking the hive?

On December 19, 2025, the account Hoops Crave — which is a parody of the pop-culture account Pop Crave — posted that Jordan supposedly admitted to running a secret X account where he stirs people up on purpose. There is zero confirmation from Jordan or his camp that any of this is real. Still, the visual of the most competitive human alive logging on to troll between rounds of golf? You can see why it took off.

Fans mostly laughed

Ordinarily, the internet is allergic to rage-baiting. In this case, the timeline treated it like a bit and ran with it. Replies were more jokes than outrage, and a lot of people admitted the idea felt strangely on brand for the guy who took everything personally.

  • "Yes, I am him" — @3YearLetterman (Dec 20, 2025)
  • "Great way to past the time while retired" — @BigImpactHumans (Dec 20, 2025)
  • "I hope this is true! MJ is one of the greatest shit talkers of all time!" — @Crypdoh (Dec 19, 2025)
  • "Since we are all coming clean, I am actually Larry Bird." — @stevensongs (Dec 20, 2025)
  • "No way MJ out here trolling us for fun" — @WINRProtocol (Dec 19, 2025)

To be clear: there is no evidence Jordan has a secret account. This was a collective wink, not a scoop. But it shows how fast fans will jump back into the MJ conversation decades after he retired, especially when there is a funny angle.

The Ben Affleck connection: one request, zero negotiation

All this is happening a couple years after Ben Affleck made Air (2023), the drama about Nike signing Jordan. Affleck has said repeatedly that MJ is a personal hero and that he approached the movie with that in mind. He also talked about the one non-negotiable Jordan gave him before getting on board: cast Viola Davis as his mother, Deloris Jordan. Affleck said talking to Jordan about his mom reframed the entire film for him — it was never just a sneaker story; it was about the people who believed in him.

"Jordan is — he is a hero to me... If you are going to f*** around with talking about Michael Jordan, do it respectfully."

"Viola Davis, that is my mom."

Affleck did not haggle. He agreed. The finished movie stars Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Jason Bateman, Marlon Wayans, Chris Messina, Chris Tucker, and Viola Davis, runs 1 hour 52 minutes, and currently sits at 93% on Rotten Tomatoes. Air is streaming on Prime Video.

As for the burner account? Believe it if you want. I am not saying MJ is out here farming replies for sport, but if anyone could turn being Extremely Online into a competitive event, it is probably him.
