Dexter Original Sin Axed And Fans Launch A Petition To Resurrect It

The move has turned into a rallying cry, with diehard Dexter devotees pushing harder than ever to bring the prequel back from the dead.
Fans are trying to pull Dexter: Original Sin back from the brink. The prequel dropped earlier this year, landed strong reviews, even snagged a renewal... and then a few months later, Paramount decided not to move forward after all. Now a petition asking Showtime and Paramount to reverse course is picking up steam.
How we got here
- Earlier this year: Dexter: Original Sin premiered as a prequel to the original series and was well received by critics and fans.
- Soon after: It was renewed for a second season.
- A few months later: Paramount confirmed it would not continue the show after all.
- The response: A Change.org petition launched to save the series and is growing fast.
The petition is surging
The Change.org campaign targets, in its own words, "the network executives involved in the decision-making process." The organizers call the show "a captivating series" that "has been unjustly cancelled."
"The network executives involved in the decision-making process" should reconsider because it is "a captivating series" that "has been unjustly cancelled."
In the last two weeks alone, the petition has collected nearly 80,000 signatures from around the world, with thousands more still rolling in daily. That kind of traction does not happen often, and it definitely signals real audience interest. Whether it will actually move the needle is another story.
About those odds
Petitions can spotlight fan support, but they rarely single-handedly change a cancellation. As a reality check, there was a recent genre show that amassed over 220,000 signatures after its cancellation and still did not land a fourth-season pickup. The truth is boring and very inside baseball: corporate strategy, budgets, and internal metrics you and I never see tend to win these fights.
Two Dexter spinoffs, two very different situations
Original Sin was one of two Dexter spinoffs to hit this year. The other, Dexter: Resurrection, premiered as well, but its future is still undetermined. No renewal. No cancellation. Just... limbo.
So what now?
For the moment, Dexter: Original Sin remains canceled, even after that earlier renewal. If you want to join the push to save it, the petition is out there and growing. If you want to actually watch (or rewatch) it, the show is streaming on Paramount Plus.
Meanwhile, Patrick Gibson is leveling up
Original Sin may be on ice, but its star is not. Irish actor Patrick Gibson has been tapped to play a young James Bond in the upcoming video game adaptation 007 First Light. Not a bad consolation prize.
