Snyder season isn’t over — another wave is in the pipeline, and it’s coming in hot.

Feels like Netflix is quietly packing up its Zack Snyder sandbox. A new report says the streamer has been easing off the Snyder slate for months, and now a couple more pieces might be gone. If you have been tracking his Netflix era, the picture is starting to look pretty clear.

What reportedly got cut

  • Army of the Dead sequel and its animated spin-off were quietly canceled in August 2024, per Forbes.
  • A second season of Twilight of the Gods, Snyder's adult animated Norse mythology series, has reportedly been nixed.
  • The untitled LAPD SWAT movie Snyder announced in 2024 has also reportedly been shelved.

What did make it out

Rebel Moon - Part One: A Child of Fire landed in December 2023, with Part Two: The Scargiver following in April 2024. Critics were not exactly thrilled (think negative to mixed), but both movies still shot to the top of Netflix's charts. Netflix even put out extended director's cuts for both films, which is not nothing.

Twilight of the Gods was a real show, not vaporware

The first season premiered in September 2024. It centers on Sigrid, a half-human, half-Jotunn warrior who swears vengeance on Thor after he pulls a full-on 'Red Wedding' and massacres her clan mid-ceremony. The season sits at 76% Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, so it was landing with viewers and critics more than the movies did. Which makes the reported season 2 cancellation sting a bit more.

Outside Netflix, Snyder is still busy

His long-gestating passion project The Last Photograph is in production right now. It stars Rebel Moon alums Stuart Martin and Fra Fee, from a script by Kurt Johnstad. The story follows an ex-DEA operative who heads back into the mountains of South America to find his missing niece and nephew after their diplomat parents are killed. Also still in development: a TV series based on 300. That one is not expected to premiere on Netflix.

The read on all this

Zooming out, it looks like Netflix bet big on Snyder, got strong viewing hours even with mixed reviews, and still decided to narrow the runway. The August 2024 cancellations were the first sign. If the latest report holds, the second wave takes out a follow-up season and a new movie before cameras rolled. Snyder's output is not stopping; it just may be moving away from Netflix sooner than expected.
