The Writers Guild strike could actually benefit Evolution.

Back in January, the news that Paramount+ had renewed the Criminal Minds revival for a second season sent fans into a frenzy. Longtime viewers are excited to follow new BAU cases, diving deep into the minds of serial killers, and see what's in store for the beloved profilers, and everyone is also hoping to catch up with some original team members who were missing from Season 1 for one reason or another.

In addition to Matthew Gray Gubler's Spencer Reid and Daniel Henney's Matt Simmons, who are said to be on special assignment for the FBI, fans are looking forward to seeing another familiar face next season.

Shemar Moore's Derek Morgan was part of the team from Season 1 to Season 11 and had one of the best character developments in the series. His charm, loyalty to his friends, great sense of humor, compelling backstory, and hilarious back-and-forths with Penelope Garcia made many people eager to see Derek return to the show. And it looks like that chance just got a whole lot bigger with the new update on Evolution.

When asked ahead of the Evolution premiere if he would reprise his Criminal Minds role, Shemar Moore told ET there was only one obstacle that would stop him.

'Would I go back to Criminal Minds and flirt with my baby girl, and chase down unsubs? Sure, alright. But Hondo kinda busy,' the actor said.

Moore was referring to his other project, the CBS police procedural S.W.A.T., in which he plays Sergeant Daniel 'Hondo' Harrelson. Earlier this year, the network announced that Season 7 of S.W.A.T., set to debut in the fall of 2023, will be its final season. At the same time, production on Evolution was reportedly delayed indefinitely due to the ongoing WGA strike.

These two facts add up to a pretty exciting conclusion. By the time Evolution Season 2 is ready to shoot, Shemar Moore will most likely be done with S.W.A.T.'s final installment, which means nothing can stop Chocolate Thunder from rumbling back onto our screens.

Well, at least a guest appearance sounds more than plausible. Fingers crossed!
