Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Crushes Fantastic Four, Zeroes In on Superman After Shattering the Anime Box Office Record

Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle has surged past Mugen Train’s $500 million haul, seizing the franchise box-office crown and rewriting anime records worldwide.
Anime just planted another flag at the global box office. Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle is now the top-grossing anime movie ever, and it is creeping up on some very big, very non-anime hits as 2025 continues to flip the usual Hollywood pecking order.
Box office status
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Infinity Castle has pulled in $555 million worldwide. A staggered rollout in Europe this past weekend, including France and Germany, gave it the bump to push past previous records.
- $555 million and counting for Infinity Castle worldwide
- Beats the prior anime champ, Demon Slayer: Mugen Train, which did $500 million in 2020
- Slides ahead of Marvel's Fantastic Four: First Steps at $520 million
- That last point likely means Marvel will have zero movies in the year's top 10 for the first time since 2011
Big picture: the anime juggernaut is now nipping at some iconic mainstream titles, and the 2025 leaderboard looks very different than the last decade.
What this chapter covers
If you have not caught up yet, Infinity Castle dives into the initial clashes between Tanjiro and the Hashira and their ultimate target, Muzan Kibutsuji, along with his inner circle of 'Upper Moon' demons. Translation for the non-initiated: the Upper Moons are Muzan's elite. The ending tees up the next marquee fight, putting the strongest of the bunch, Upper One Kokushibo, on a collision course with the remaining Hashira.
So when can you stream it?
Short answer: not this year. Crunchyroll is keeping it theatrical for a while. Their executive vice president of global commerce, Mitchel Berger, told Popverse:
"Go see [Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle] in the theater because the theater is the only place you're going to be able to see this film in 2025."
Read between the lines and that means no streaming or digital on-demand until 2026. As for the next installment, there is no release date yet for whatever comes after this film.
What is next in theaters
The next big anime swing in the West is Chainsaw Man - The Movie: Reze Arc, a continuation of the first season. That lands in US and UK cinemas on October 29.
