After a smaller appearance in Deadpool & Wolverine, Morena Baccarin is ready to step up to a bigger, more central role in a potential Deadpool 4, reflecting on her long run with the franchise.

Morena Baccarin is ready to get off the sidelines. After popping back in for a quick hello in Deadpool & Wolverine, she says she wants a real shot in a potential Deadpool 4. And yeah, she knows the last one was a two-hander for Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman. Still, she would like a little more room to play this time.

Baccarin wants back in, with more to do

While promoting CBS' Sheriff Country, Baccarin told Variety she is hoping to return to the MCU if a fourth Deadpool movie gets the green light and that she wants a bigger role than she had in the latest film. She also reflected on how far this ride has gone since the first movie started rolling cameras almost a decade ago and admitted she never pictured it turning into what it did.

"I hope that I get to do more of it and participate a little bit more than the last one. But I understood that it was the bro comedy."

In Deadpool & Wolverine, Baccarin briefly reunited with Ryan Reynolds' Wade Wilson as Vanessa Carlysle, a quick-but-meaningful check-in for the character.

Where Vanessa stands after Deadpool & Wolverine

Deadpool & Wolverine was a big crossover moment for the franchise and for Marvel Studios, and it performed like it. Baccarin's return was small, but the universe around her just got a lot bigger.

  • Released in 2024, it was the first Deadpool movie under Marvel Studios and the MCU's first R-rated entry.
  • It made $1.3 billion worldwide.
  • Rotten Tomatoes: 78% critics (certified fresh) and 94% audience.
  • Critical consensus in plain English: Reynolds slots right into the MCU with his signature bite, and Jackman gives the movie its steel spine.

So, is Deadpool 4 happening?

Marvel hasn't officially announced a fourth movie yet, but the studio is reportedly developing more outings for Reynolds' Merc with a Mouth. If that happens, there's a pretty clear path to giving Baccarin more to do: in the comics, Vanessa becomes the mutant mercenary Copycat, complete with shapeshifting powers. The MCU is already ramping up its mutant roster ahead of an X-Men reboot, so exploring Vanessa's evolution would neatly build on threads teased in Deadpool 2 and touched again in Deadpool & Wolverine.

For what it's worth, the interest is there. The box office is there. Now it's just a matter of Marvel handing Vanessa the keys to something more than a cameo.
