Did David Corenswet just tip DCU’s next Batman? After the new Superman followed Brandon Sklenar on Instagram, fans are convinced they’ve found their Dark Knight.

Batman rumors are back on the stove because Superman himself, David Corenswet, just followed actor Brandon Sklenar on Instagram. Yes, we are absolutely at the Instagram-follow-as-clue stage of this saga. Welcome back to the hunt.

Why Sklenar is suddenly in the Bat-conversation

Sklenar has been floating around the DCU rumor mill for a while, and earlier this year he didn't exactly shut it down. Back in April, while promoting It Ends with Us, he was asked about the Batman chatter and leaned into it.

"Let's keep running with that! That's something I've wanted to do since I was a little kid - and I've never even talked about it - it just started happening and I was like, 'This is cool!' And now, maybe, hopefully, it happens one day."

So, combine a public follow from the new Superman with an actor who's already winking at the idea, and the fandom machine does what it does.

What actually happened this week

Fans noticed Corenswet now follows Sklenar on Instagram and promptly lit up social feeds. A popular DCU news account on X (formerly Twitter) posted a screenshot on December 16, 2025, and the replies split into predictable camps: some are convinced this means Sklenar is our DCU Batman, some are trying hard not to jinx it, and at least one person argued that if this pans out, it reflects poorly on James Gunn's stewardship of the brand. In short: excitement, caution, and a little doom.

The grounded version

As of right now, there's zero official confirmation that Brandon Sklenar has been cast as Batman. Following someone on Instagram is not the same thing as a contract. It's also entirely possible he's in the mix for a different DCU role altogether, maybe even something tied to Corenswet's next Superman movie, "Man of Tomorrow."

Bottom line: the tea leaves are fun, and this one's definitely spicy, but until the studio says "Here's your Batman," it's still just a very loud maybe.
