Daniel Radcliffe Finally Settles the Wolverine Rumors: Will He Replace Hugh Jackman?
Daniel Radcliffe finally settles the Wolverine question, revealing whether Marvel ever came calling—or if the fan casting was all noise.
Daniel Radcliffe has heard the Wolverine chatter for years, and he just shut the door on it again. Nicely, but firmly.
In a new interview, Radcliffe said the internet-fueled fan casting never came close to being real. As he put it: 'It was not. It was never real. It was a very flattering internet rumor... but it was never suggested in any kind of way by anybody with any power to make that happen.'
He also gets why people keep asking. He gets why anyone would at least think about it. But following Hugh Jackman? Hard pass. 'You would be stupid not to consider something like that,' Radcliffe said, 'but if they do other Wolverines, being the person who follows Hugh Jackman is not on my bucket list for anything.'
Radcliffe made it clear he is not on some crusade to plant his flag in a superhero universe. He is open to the idea, just not chasing it. 'I am so out of the loop. I feel like I don't know what cycle we are on of the Marvel movies, and I have some catching up to do if I ever end up on one of them.' He added that he would never rule it out, but he is not actively seeking it either.
Zooming out to the whole franchise conversation, Radcliffe pointed to the very big, very formative one he already lived through. Harry Potter was wonderful, he said, and the stability it gave him let him follow his curiosity afterward. He would be happy to jump into another franchise someday, but not anytime soon.
Bottom line: the perennial Wolverine rumor stays a rumor. Radcliffe is flattered, he is not gunning for it, and he is definitely not signing up to be the guy who steps into Jackman's muttonchops.
