Cruel Summer Season 2 Filmed Multiple Endings (Clearly They Picked the Wrong One)
Feels like any ending left on the cutting room floor would be better than the one we got.
Cruel Summer Season 2 is over, leaving fans scratching their heads. The final episode of the season, titled 'Endgame,' proved to many that the Chatham love triangle story had too many cinematic errors and plot holes.
But what outraged fans the most was the showrunners' choice of ending. And according to KaDee Strickland, who played Megan's mother, they did have a choice.
'They did not shoot just one ending,' Strickland told Us Weekly before the finale aired. 'I haven't seen the final episode for that reason. I want to do it in real-time with the audience. I think that's so much more fun.'
Time has shown, however, that audiences were not too thrilled with the ending that made it into the final cut. Beware of spoilers ahead.
Apparently, the mystery of Luke's death turned out to be much more complicated than it seemed at first. At the same time, the killer is not as unexpected as viewers had hoped.
After being drugged and interrogated by Megan and Isabella, Luke managed to get to the lake and call his brother for help. When Brent showed up, the brothers got into a fight, and after being pushed, Luke fell into the lake and disappeared under the water.
But that was not the end. Just like in Season 1, the final minutes of the story revealed a shocking twist. A stunned Megan and the viewers saw on a CCTV tape that it was actually Isabella who found Luke half-dead near the lake later that morning and ended his life.
While disturbing enough, such a revelation raises more questions than it answers. How and why did Isabella end up at the lake in the first place? Has she come to kill Luke? What is the significance of Isabella introducing herself under a different name to the girl on the plane? Did she kill Lisa? What would happen if the tape of Isabella killing Luke was shown to the police?
Why did the season end on a cliffhanger, if it was one?
Many people feel at this point that any alternate ending might be better than the one they got. After all, Cruel Summer is an anthology, and each season finale should give a definitive answer to any question viewers may have. Sadly, that didn't happen.
