Creamy Potatoes With Smoked Sausage Serve Up Restaurant-Quality Flavor—Kids Beg for Seconds
Big flavor, zero fuss. Meet the weeknight dinner playbook that turns busy nights into easy wins.
Weeknight comfort, minimal hovering. Think tender potato wedges in a smoky, creamy sauce, courtesy of hunter-style smoked sausages and a quick stovetop braise. The cream turns lush, the potatoes drink it up, and the whole thing feels like you planned ahead when you absolutely did not.
What you need
Potatoes, 800 g; smoked hunter sausages, 300 g; 20% cream, 300 ml; 1 yellow onion; 2 garlic cloves; butter, 20 g; vegetable oil, 1 tbsp; paprika, 1 tsp; salt and black pepper to taste; a handful of fresh herbs for serving.
How it comes together
- Peel the potatoes and cut them into large wedges so they hold their shape. Slice the onion into half-moons, mince the garlic, and cut the sausages into coins.
- Warm the butter and vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the sausage coins and brown them until golden; this deepens that smoky flavor.
- Stir in the onion and cook for 2 to 3 minutes until it softens. Add the garlic and paprika, then toss to coat.
- Tip the potato wedges into a deep baking dish or a heavy, thick-walled saute pan. Spoon the sausage-onion mixture over the top. Pour in the cream, season with salt and black pepper, and mix gently if needed to distribute.
- Cover with a lid or snug foil and cook over low heat for 35 to 40 minutes, until the potatoes turn tender and saturated with the sauce.
Serve it right
Shower with chopped herbs and bring fresh bread to the table for a proper sauce mop-up.
My take
Reach for hunter sausages with a clear, real-deal smoky profile; they carry the dish. Crave a thicker, silkier sauce? Swap 50 to 70 ml of the cream for 1 tbsp of sour cream.
