Thursday, October 2: The week’s in the home stretch, and The Atlantic Games is dropping fresh puzzles to power you through—whether you want a lightning warm-up or a full-on brain bender. Sharpen up and dive in.

Thursday brain break: The Atlantic Games dropped the October 2, 2025 batch, and if the grids/pattern chains are chewing you up, I’ve got clean, spoiler-filled walkthroughs for Fluxis, the 8x8 Crossword, Bracket City, and Stacks. A couple clever clues, a couple eyebrow-raisers, and yes, one of those inside-baseball entries that looks like it snuck past the copy desk.

Fluxis (Oct 2, 2025)

Base word: BROADCAST. Fitting.

The chain rolls out like this:

Category 1: No repeated letters — ASTEROID. The build grabs AST from BROADCAST and expands from there into a clean, no-repeat word.

Category 2: Exactly 2 vowels — DABBLED. Two vowels total, job done.

Category 3: Alternating vowel-consonant — DUB. It uses the D from DABBLED, then loops back to the B from BROADCAST to close the circuit. Classic Fluxis mechanics: connect the strands, finish the ring.

Crossword (Oct 2, 2025)

It’s a tight 8x8 — compact but with enough snap to be interesting.

Across:

1. 2025 drama where Paul Mescal plays Shakespeare: HAMNET

7. Escape from a heated situation, literally: FIREEXIT

9. Invisible ink?: UVTATTOO

10. Moving readily: RESTLESS

11. Deity said to die alongside Jormungandr: THOR

12. Absolutely!: OHYESIDO

16. 3 Feet High and Rising group: DELASOUL

17. Like Emma Stone's hair (typically): DYED

18. Also like Emma Stone's hair (typically): RED

Down:

1. Active place: HIVE

2. Dada, or a relative?: ARTSTYLE

3. Dumbbell: MEATHEAD

4. Figure inside parentheses, maybe: NETLOSS

5. Part of a car that might be detailed: EXTERIOR

6. Certain familia members: TOS

7. Stuff that ends up on a pet owner’s lint roller: FUR

8. Guidelines, for short: TOS

12. That’s weird ...: ODD

13. That’s weird ...: HEY

14. It’s outstanding!: DUE

15. 2021 movie with the skeletal-foot beach poster: OLD

Heads-up on the inside baseball: the grid lists TOS twice in the Downs. For 8-Down, TOS as 'terms of service' works. For 6-Down, 'Certain familia members' feels like it wants TIOS, but the provided key says TOS. If your fill looked off there, you’re not imagining things.

Bracket City (Oct 2, 2025)

Pretty straightforward set once you keep your spelling tidy. Here’s how the chain resolves:

[a pool’s deep one can be scary] → END

[color for Haze (Hendrix) or Rain (Prince)] → PURPLE

[wide-__ lens] → ANGLE

[prefix with angle or pod or dent] → TRI

[trim a plant or tree] → PRUNE

[purple fruit that dries into a prune] → PLUM

[plumber’s bane] → CLOG

[rubbery clog full of holes] → CROC

[word after biological or grandfather] → CLOCK

[largest number on an analog clock] → 12

[descriptor for 12 Men in a courthouse] → ANGRY

[hour to avoid if you hate traffic] → RUSH

[Store featuring Angry Birds and Candy Crush] → APP

[happily __ after] → EVER

[croc’s companion in the Everglades] → GATOR

[letters before hoc, lib, or nauseum] → AD

Stacks (Oct 2, 2025)

Bottom to top, your completed stack reads: FREQUENT, SOBERLY, ONLINE, YOUNG, EARS.

How to build it:

1) Drop SEQUEL in the middle so the bottom line reads _REQUEN_.

2) Drop BERET as far to the right as it will go.

3) Drop FOOLING as far to the left as it will go.

4) Drop NOUNS into the middle-right — be careful here: keep the S off the second-from-bottom row.

5) Drop YEARLY into the remaining gaps to finish the build.

Which one tripped you up today? I’ll admit, UVTATTOO is a neat clue, and that duplicate TOS made me do a double take.
