After a buzzworthy first season, the radio silence is sparking theories — will the show make a big comeback, or is it being quietly buried?

Prime Video's 'Countdown' has been a steady, no-nonsense ride: a DHS officer turns up dead, LAPD detective Mark Meachum gets pulled into the case, and undercover agents muddy the waters. With the finale about to hit, everyone keeps asking the same thing: is this it, or are we getting a Season 2?

Short answer: not canceled, not renewed

As of right now, Prime Video has not canceled or renewed 'Countdown' for a second season. No decision has been announced either way.

The rollout (and why people thought there might be more)

  • Premiere: June 25, 2025
  • Total episodes: 13
  • Release style: straight weekly rollout, no mid-season split, no surprise 'Part 2'
  • Season finale: 'Your People Are in Danger' drops September 3, 2025

Some fans wondered if extra episodes were hiding in the wings because streamers love chopping seasons in half these days. Not the case here. 'Countdown' ran its schedule as planned, leading right into this week’s finale.

What the creator is saying

Showrunner Derek Haas told Bleeding Cool News he does not have a Season 2 update yet, but he sounds optimistic about the folks at Prime who like the show. He also nudged anyone waiting to binge to go ahead and finish now. His words, emphasis mine:

'Nothing new to share. I know there are a lot of fans over at Prime who really champion the show, so I’m hoping for great news but not sure when the timing will be.'

'Tell everyone who has been holding out for binging, now’s the time!'

On how viewers should feel after the finale: 'Satisfied knowing that all the characters are okay and going to live long, happy, fulfilling lives!'

What will decide Season 2

It comes down to viewership. If the numbers look strong enough — especially around the finale and post-finale completion — Prime Video has a reason to keep going. If you want more 'Countdown,' the most useful thing you can do is finish the season and get other curious people to actually hit play.

Bottom line: 'Countdown' is in limbo, not on the chopping block. Finale lands September 3. After that, we wait for Prime to make the call.
