Countdown: Jensen Ackles' New Prime Series Already Getting Roasted on Rotten Tomatoes

Jensen Ackles is trading his Soldier Boy cape for a badge in Countdown, a crime thriller hitting Prime Video on June 25. But early reviews? Let's just say... the critics are not united.
Out of six early reviews, it's a perfect split down the middle — three fresh, three rotten.
Even the positive takes come with disclaimers like "doesn't quite fire on all cylinders" and "lacks originality." The negatives are a little less kind, calling it "clunky," "simplistic," and "bad at being memorable."
Ackles plays LAPD detective Mark Meachum, who gets pulled into a multi-agency task force after a Homeland Security officer is murdered in broad daylight. What starts as a whodunit quickly turns into a "race against time to save a city of millions." So yeah — 24 vibes, if you squint.
The first three episodes drop June 25, with new episodes airing weekly through September 3. The cast includes Eric Dane, Jessica Camacho, Violett Beane, Elliot Knight, and Uli Latukefu, and the show comes from One Chicago and FBI producer Derek Haas — so the pedigree's there.
Whether Countdown becomes the next Reacher or ends up in the Citadel bin is anyone's guess. Ackles fans will probably show up no matter what, but right now, the show's biggest mystery might be whether anyone sticks around after week one.
