From stage to screen…and back again.

Corey Mylchreest came to public attention for his portrayal of the young King George III in Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story. Prior to that, his only TV role was in The Sandman, a fantasy drama based on Neil Gaiman's comic book.

So it may come as a surprise that he'll soon be appearing in Kenneth Branagh's production of King Lear in London and New York.

But the Leytonstone-born actor is no stranger to the works of William Shakespeare, having appeared in two of the bard's plays.

As a youngster, Mylchreest was a member of the National Youth Theatre. And he studied at one of the UK's most prestigious drama schools, graduating from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) with a Bachelor of Arts in Acting in 2020.

Such quality education in his craft – along with obvious natural talent - was evident in his moving portrayal of young George. It may also have been one of the reasons why he left college and almost immediately found himself on stage.

The London stage and the chance to work with theatre royalty such as Kenneth Branagh may have seemed a world away when he appeared in the New Forest Open Air Theatre's productions of Romeo and Juliet and A Midsummer Night's Dream, playing Tyblat and Demetrius respectively.

And starring in a hit Netflix series was probably the furthest thing from his mind. But now, at the age of 25 and fresh from just such a role, Mylchreest is on the verge of stardom.

The opportunity he has earned through his time on Queen Charlotte is one that many young actors spend years trying to achieve. That's not to say that many of them aren't equally talented – it's just that it's an industry that requires you to take opportunities as they come and really make the most of them.

He's certainly done that. And it appears he has a busy schedule ahead of him. As well as playing Edmund alongside Branagh's King Lear, he'll be appearing in Fantastic Friends, an adventurous travel show starring the Phelps twins who played Fred and George Weasley in the Harry Potter movies.

So remember the name Corey Mylchreest. It looks as though landing the part of young George was just one small step in what promises to be a career to be proud of.
