Colman Domingo Would Join the MCU—But Only on One Condition
Colman Domingo wants into the MCU on one condition: let him be the villain. The Euphoria, Rustin, and The Color Purple standout says he’ll join live-action Marvel only to play the bad guy.
Colman Domingo is down to join the MCU, but only if he gets to be bad. Not edgy antihero bad. Full-on villain. Honestly, it fits.
The pitch, straight from Domingo
Asked by The Direct what kind of Marvel role he wants, the star of The Madness did not hesitate: he wants to go dark. In his words, villains are simply more interesting.
'Villains. I think I am meant to play a villain. I do not know why - and I think I am such a lovable person.'
- He thinks villains are more complex and, therefore, more fun to play.
- He wants to make an audience cry for the bad guy.
- He is interested in tapping into a villain's humanity, the reasons they cause harm, and that drive to be more powerful than everyone else.
He wrapped it with a little nudge to Marvel: 'I mean, I do not know, I feel like... Let us make it happen. Let us do it.'
He has already dipped a toe in Marvel
Domingo has not shown up in live-action Marvel yet, but he did enter the universe earlier this year by voicing Norman Osborn in Disney+'s animated series 'Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man.'
The Kang chatter he addressed
After Disney and Marvel Studios cut ties with Jonathan Majors, rumors swirled that Domingo might step in as Kang the Conqueror. He confirmed on Josh Horowitz's 'Happy Sad Confused' podcast that he talked with Marvel about the Kang situation and the broader MCU. But he is not into inheriting someone else's role. If he is joining, he wants to build a character from the ground up and make it his.
Where he is coming from
Domingo has been on a tear lately with standout turns in Euphoria, Rustin, and The Color Purple. Given the range he has shown, a layered Marvel villain sounds like exactly the kind of playground he is asking for.
